Motivation

Is it me or does the motivation just seem to fade away with the years?
I got a ton of projects waiting in the wings and just don't feel like starting (or finishing) any of them.
Gotta trim out a bedroom, finish swapping motors on the log splitter, replace the rotten rafters in the kitchen, rotten walls in the pantry, put the bucket back on the farm tractor, install side rails on the McKee Craft, replace the toilet seat, clean off the porch, organize the shed, clean up the shop, gotta vintage Super Chief garden tractor to restore including rebuilding the Kohler, another garden tractor to find a carb for, another garden tractor that needs maintenance, plant kale, gotta turn some trees into firewood, wire up the speakers for the home theater system, hook up another solar panel, go to wally world and get some F15 tubes for the light over the kitchen sink, get the frozen SS prop off the old Merc sitting in front of the garage, not to mention the ideas my wife comes up with every 5 minutes.

For one thing, your to do list is too big.

A to do list should never be over 3 or 4 items. Anybody can tackle 3 or 4 but golly fellow, you got 8 years of work there. No wonder you don't start or finish anything.

PS. I suffer from the same symptom.

I agree with Tyme, only 2 things I see needing done here....

1) Toilet Seat
2) Frozen prop

Maybe instead of lacking motivation as the years progress,you've just established a longer list of priorities.If you're ever able to get caught up with everything please share your secret.

I dont know about you guys but I had a list that was fairly long but under control until we got the boat. Now I find myself putting things off when I do get a day off of work to spend time on the water instead. Also have boat upgrades crowding into my list as well! I would'nt have it any other way....

First of all, your motivation hasn't diminished one bit. Yes, you are just as motivated now as when you were 20. The difference is that with age came experience, and now that you know what it takes to complete those jobs, you're not as interrested in putting forth that kind of effort. If you didn't know better, you'd jump right in like you did when you were 20, but now that you know it's not worth it, you don't bother with it. That's called wisedom.

Well I think we are all motivated to do some of the nicer things like boating etc. I just found out that our entire family want to come over from England to spend Christmas with us !!!!
I am sure you can imagine where my priorities have to be till they get here !!!!
Finish my "English Pub" in the basement, finish the other spare bedroom in the basement and then a lot of painting etc around the rest of the house.

I'm suffering from the same thing. However, we have a 1 year old son. That means I can't get anything done and that I haven't gotten anything done for a year. I wish he'd learn to walk already, grass is getting long. I am going fishing this evening though, so there's that at least!

in my house the more she fusses the lower priority that item gets. i keep something for her to fuss about, so she does not look for others.

Well put. And your way ahead of me. At least you were able to create a list. I'm so far gone I cant bring mysekf to create one. I mentally go thru it as I walk around the house.

I didn't create a list, those are just the ones that popped into my head as I started writing.

Ive been putting off alot of stuff since I got the boat too. Ive been trying to remodel a few rooms in the house before the weather turns. So today I ripped down the ceiling in the foyer The look on her face when she got home was priceless Thanks for the motivation Mthieme, hopefully itll be done for the holidays

... guess it depends on what your doing instead. for me it started to slip when proper diet and exercise deminished. perhaps a check up and a new routine may get you restarted.

Did I mention these items...
lower rollers on trailer A, reinforce trailer B, Scrap aluminum boat leaning gainst tree in yard, plant trees, powerwash deck, fix speed sensor on truck, fix air dam on car, upgrade outside lighting, cut & install A/C trim for mom, go over dad's boat (hasn't used all season), clean chimney, fix charging system on 35hp Merc, put lower unit back on Merc 50hp, install bimini on McKee raft,
clean windows, get propane company to get their tanks, put runabout together for best friend, (bug) spray house, fix roof leak in BR2 closet, replace duct for HVAC, install (backup) baseboard heater in BR1, replace intake gasket on Searay, ongoing 402 Merc project, get rid of 4 tires laying around (anybody?), put felt under legs of coffee table...

Atleast by the end of this thread ,I'll have a complete list!

I do admit, I don't really get too much done in boating season.

I'm sure we have a few things in common T-Daddy, and a lot of things in life we probably see with different eyes.

But this is one strategy to a “happy life” we share. I find it works great.

Her list is always long, too long. After a while she forgets something was important and it moves off the list.

I just wait till she forgets one item that was once a burning issue, and then do it when she is not looking.

Hey look! Surprise! Look at what I did just for you!

This earns me at least a month of peace.

Last week I painted the bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom while she was gone on a business trip. Was supposed to do that last year according to her list.

Today I am doing the living room. She is gone again.

This will keep me out of the doghouse till after Christmas at least.
