Re: Motor Siezed Today

Yes, it comes in two parts. I will sure be adding oil. I already have 3/4 quart and a pump. I will buy another quart locally when I am ready. I purchased the install kit that comes with all the gaskets, seals, etc. Didn't get the Gimbal bearing. Anyways, this should hold up for a long time. Didn't want to part with the money but it's better than having a broke down boat sitting around. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Motor Siezed Today

I think you made a good decision Joe, glad you researched and posted here and took all the advice in heed. This is a good long term solution, and even though it seemd like a big monetary hit just amortize that over the now-longer period you can keep and enjoy this boat :)

Thanks. Like I said, I wasn't planning on this unexpected purchase especially so close to Christmas. One good thing is that the unit was very inexpensive IMO. To top it off, the price includes tax and free shipping! Looking forward to breaking it in.

when assembling dont forget to install the small oil seal between the units, often called the "quad seal" for th oil passage. the lower may come with the foward stud not installed , get some blue loc-tite to install it. fill with oil and let sit overnight , recheck in the am before installing.

Thanks. I'm assuming it will come with the part and hopefully it's own set of instructions. Looking forward to getting this thing back together.

It's interesting you brought this up. I have not figured out how the gear oil makes it up to the upper drive. I cant find the oil passage. On the Bravo 1&2 it is up front like you mentioned but on my Alpha 1 Gen 1 It isn't there that I can see. Can someone tell me where the passage and seal are on my unit?

There is a small hole which lube flows between the two halves when lube is pumped in from the bottom. The quad-ring seals the channel for the lube to pass between the two halves.

Bondo, my 2002 SeaRay 5.0 had a 1.62 drive. However since the OP found the 150R, he needs the 1.47:1 ratio

Removed the upper oil vent screw and removed the drain plug. No oil but about two cups of water came out. Is it even worth taking it apart now? Been running dry for a long while. Should I be looking into this unit?

You most likely lost the shim packs above and below the drive and driven gears in the upper half. It just cost me $1500 to have mine rebuilt for that very reason last summer.
