Re: Motorguide 82lb foot control Greatwhite Digital
Next time the motor stops, check to see if the locator is also dead. Proof that its the breaker (unless of course the locator is hooked directly to the battery instead of the other side of the breaker). Circuit breakers come in two varieties. One looks just like the one in your house (has a trip lever). Those however do not reset automatically. The auto-reset types have two terminals. One connects to the battery (usually via a flat metal strap. The other has a wire on it that goes to the trolling motor. Physically it looks like a square metal box about 1 inch long, 3/4 inch wide and and about 3/4 inch high. DO NOT remove the breaker -- its there to prevent your boat from burning down due to electrical overloads. Circuit breakers derate as they cycle. This means each time they cycle, some of their current carrying capacity is reduced. So instead of tripping at 40 amps, they trip at 39, then 38, then 37 until they simply can't do the job any more. Replace the breaker and make sure the existing one is the correct size for the size wire in the system. That breaker should be about 40A using 8ga. wire.
