In my original post I was told my OMC was obsolete. Is my 3.0 liter Cobra that bad because of age or is it from a lack of replacement parts? Am I to expect trouble out of this powerplant? Your info is appreciated. Ive always been a OMC owner with outboards and never had problems.

No problem getting parts for the motor. Some drive parts can be problematic or expensive. Take good care of it and it can give you many years of service. If it craps out, you can convert it to an SEI unit with a conversion kit and new outdrive. You might even be able to use an actual MerCruiser Alpha Gen II drive, which you might be able to pick up cheaper.

You just got the Bayliner, right? And there's no major problems right now, correct? Run it bro. Enjoy, have fun. Don't worry about it. Take care of it, have a good time. If stuff breaks ... look for parts and fix it. On the social ladder you're a little down on the list for owning an OMC ... but hey, at least it's not a '72 Electric Shift OMC Stringer, those guys are real dorks :D

Seriously, the drive is old and the company is outta' business. Parts are getting tougher to get hold of, but not bad at all yet. If you like what you have, run it and don't worry about it. Plenty of advice on here to keep you floatin'.

If you don't like it ... then you can start lookin' for something else.
