We bought our house 3 years ago and thought well it needs some updating. one night I rolled back in my computer chair and something gave way and the chair kind of fell into a hole with one wheel. So I went under the house to find we had been visited by termites and what was no big deal on the top was down under.they had chewed up a floor joist and where the chair roller the old hardwood floor had dropped down. I didn't tell the wife how bad it was at the time because we couldn't afford to fix it then. just said we needed to get it treated. and we did. well time goes by and it is apparant it wasn't going to fix itself
so I start saying we need to pull up the carpeting and see what up with it and fix it. monday was D-Day. I pulled the carpet and got some suprises I wasn't expecting. I ended up removing a section in the middle of the floor 12 foot wide by 8 foot long. tounge and groove floor beams everything plus about a 2x4 section in another area. called wife at work and told her she was going to kill me but she kinda laughed it off. then got home and I thought she took it real well. I called my boss and told him I needed tuesday off he said no problem good luck.My buddy comes over and we get all floor beams back in and added some, reinforced most existing ones too. came back tuesday and finished up.
Now she says why don't we split the room to add a bedroom for our oldest son.so we lay it out I get wood etc. I suggest we get rid of paneling where the new room will be and just rock it. she says great idea she hates paneling anyway.so more demo tonight. pull paneling, crap find lathe and pllaster with blown in insulation behind that
I carefully make seam where new wall will end figure make seam where rock and paneling would meet. WRONG she wants to do the entire length of that wall in the living room with rock. more demo tomorrow night for me.
I am a mechanic and am no where near a carpenter but I have a feeling when(if) we get done with the house Tim Taylor won't have anything on me
Who would have thunk a 2" hole in the floor could cause a guy this much work.
here are some pics of progress so far
http://community.webshots.com/album/347831489JGVakd
