Re: My Chieftan project

Appreciate the compliments, reassuring to know that I am on the right track, albeit at a slow pace. Nothing new to post as it has been high speed beef season and I have been sitting in my tree stand attempting to get some fresh backstraps but nothing worthy of firing upon yet. Hopefully soon will be able to pull the gal down to a heated shop so we can get going on some paint.

Re: My Chieftan project

My freezer is stocked up and winter has struck here with north winds and bone chilling cold. From what I see the arctic cold is coming everyone's way this week. Time to be in a heated space for just about anything except for ice fishing season around the corner.

Well ya know it's not always about catching the fish but rather the enjoyment of being out there in the first place. The fish are the added bonus. It's about 50 here today....heat wave but the bottom is supposed to drop out by tomorrow evening and then back to winter. Ugh..

Re: My Chieftan project

Wow, what a week so far. I am sure many of you have seen on the news the ice storm in the midwest. Unfortunately we were victims of this icy disaster in our end of Michigan. We were awoken Sunday morning by a loud bang on the roof above our bedroom. Got up and looked out the back patio door and all I could see was ice and branches by the deck ( too dark yet to see). When it got light enough to see,,,,,oh my, limbs and tree tops falling all around us and more freezing rain falling. Lost power around 6:30am. Got a small generator from work on Monday but it wasn't powerful enough to run our furnace so my Mr. Heater Buddy had to suffice. Tuesday a buddy of mine offered up his larger generator and although quite a bit more powerful seems these new fangled furnaces are tempermental about fluctuating voltage from the generator so it would occasionally run it. But at least we had some light and were able to watch the news to try and get some idea on when to expect power return.
Moved family Xmas over to my daughters as we did not have power this morning but finally came back on little after 2:00pm today. At least we have a nice looking and smelling tree in the house although never got decorated.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas and I salute the folks that helped restore power to the thousands in our area that were out.

One of 2 trees over our drive.

Tough to fish with that much ice on the downriggers.

The Chief remained unscathed from the falling branches.

Glad to see you made the best of it and now are back at full power. Last I heard there are still 140,000 without. We live about 20 miles below the damage zone thankfully. Merry Christmas.

Ice storms are the worst. We got lucky with this one in VT...not as much damage as what you're dealing with. I hope it's just a clean up job for you.

Re: My Chieftan project

Thanks guys, no serious damage was done except the trees. Lost lots of tops. Guess that will be less leaves to deal with next fall. Hopefully the weather will tame down so I can move the Chief down to the heated building where we shall start on the paint.

Severe weather was being predicted, I even heard about it while in Honolulu over Christmas.. :D

Glad the Chief was unscathed, I too was lucky when a funnel cloud tore my chief off the trailer.

Re: My Chieftan project

Wow, wonder who pissed off the weather gods in our area. First the ice storm, then snow storm on Sunday, now below freezing temps and high winds. We got dumped on with around 17" of the nice white fluffy stuff. One of the few times the weather guesser were on the money. Heeding the warning of the impending snow I called my buddy on Saturday morning and told him I was gonna hook up the Chief and bring her down to the shop. I needed to get her in there or she might not be able to move till spring. She pulled sweet on the 20 mile trip even on the couple miles of snow and ice covered gravel road by the shop. Amazing how light it is compared to my Thompson. Now shall be able to get some paint on and start wrapping the project up.

Tough winter this year in some places, very mild here except for some cold blasts every now and then with an inch of snow. I hope your buddy lets you shoot the paint inside where it's nice and warm.

Re: My Chieftan project

The shop is one I used to work in a few years ago. My buddy and I built the interior of the shop and put in a lift. We plan on using the lift to hoist the rear and a cherry picker to hoist the front so should be able to do the bottom in one shot. He used to own a body shop and will be the man handling the spray gun. Kinda funny, when we were doing the interior of the shop I took a hand at painting the walls......made a few passes with the roller and he said give me that thing. I guess I didn't quite have the painting talent.
