Re: My first stranded boater

many years ago bought a new boat, boat ran great until you tried to tow a skiier or hit the throttle too hard, it'd die and not restart. turns out they kinked the fuel line at the factory and it'd randomly suck shut. So spare me the "someone that forgot to put fuel in" comments.

I agree if you do not have tow insurance you should not own a boat.
:confused::confused::confused::confused:

I live in New Mexico and do my boating there and in Sonora, Mexico. As far as I know, nobody sells towing insurance in either of those two states. I guess I'm one of those who shouldn't own a boat according to your way of thinking.

Too broad a statement. I would guess that there are far more bodies of water not serviced by a tow company than are.
I mainly boat on small 10hp limit lakes with no marina's. Even if I had towing insurance their would be no one to tow me except fellow boaters.

I agree if you do not have tow insurance you should not own a boat. On the other hand I will tow someone who I think needs help and either has or doesn't have the insurance.

Tow insurance where I live would be absolutley useless. There is no "towing body" (read TowUS etc.) here. We rely on Coast Gaurd or another boater. Hence the reason most boats have a radio. To call for help.

I still owe someone out there...The second time i took my boat out the battery went dead, and my brother and i were about 2 miles away from the dock . While we paddled a 16 ft larson, many boats went by and looked at us but didnt stop. Finally about the tenth boat that passed us swung around, and an older gentleman said "are you boys paddling for exercise or are you broke down?" Thankfully he towed us in, i made him take a ten(all i had). i know that some of the boats saw us but kept on movin, i dont know why. The sad deal was we had waited about an hour and paddled for about an hour, then back at the dock, i moved the gear into neutral and the dang thing started. neutral safety switch ? who knew?
