Re: NASCAR - Fontana

I thought it was a great race, the banging all around the track reminded me of Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison in 1979

NASCAR - The Infamous Fistfight - Daytona 500 1979 - YouTube

This was one of those moments in NASCAR history that's regarded as a turning point, the entire east coast was enduring a blizzard and the Daytona 500 was watched by more new fans then ever, NASCAR's popularity exploded, i think this rivalry will bring back those old feelings and NASACAR will be more popular then ever.

To me the last lap was nothing less then what you will see at any home track, two guys fighting for the win with so much drive that they are not willing to settle for second place, first or nothing and that is what I love about racing, second place is the first loser. I have more respect for Logano now then I did Friday, I like seeing him grow, and I can honestly say I am becoming a fan of his, calling him a rich punk is just BS what is he supposed to do not take advantage of the cards he has been dealt? I am a Smoke fan, I have always been I feel he is one of the most talented drivers out there and he is also one of the smartest and I think he is smart like a fox just like my favorite driver Dale Earnhardt, who saw the talent of a up and coming California driver named Jeff Gordon, Dale used the opportunity to make himself into an icon the likes of which NASCAR hasn't seen, and not to many knew what was going on.

What everyone found out later was just how much NASCAR needs a bad guy, and NASCAR fans don't care if their driver is the bad guy either not one bit, the last lap of Fontana may go down as one of those epic laps in NASCAR history, What a great race!

I don't see it as Hamlin should have won it because of this or that or Logano deserved to get punted or smoke was a blowhard, its racing and what happened was Logano and Hamlin were not willing to take second to the other, Smoke was not willing to punt Logano, Kyle found that even though he didn't have the car at the end he had enough car to stay in the mix and took full advantage when Hamlin/Logano took each other out, Dale Earnhardt Junior found himself in better position then he ever thought possible and Kurt Busch is winning me as a fan and possibly the driver that can take Furniture Row Racing to the top, and I am losing the bad taste in my mouth when I say that I am becoming a Kurt Busch fan too.

I sure hope Hamlin will be ok, I don't think this rivalry is over by any stretch, but the last thing I want to see is anyone get seriously hurt. QC you are one lucky dog!! Lucky to get a good race to see in person, but to get to see that last lap too, what a bonus!!

... but the view I remember is Logano down low worried about Tony while 3, 4 and 5 lanes up, cars were taking off.

That is why I said Joey screwed up twice, that was #1 - Whatever the reason he didn't get up to speed, the top line was passing him up and Smoke was going to blow by down low. Smoke should have sent him to the infield.

The second was it looked to me like he knew he was looking at finishing 2nd being on the inside and decided that Denny wasn't going to get first no matter what.

That race was one of the more exciting races in years, IMO. The Gen 6 car actually showed it could pass, at least on that style of track.

To you guys that camp in the infield, can anybody do that or do you have to know someone? I'd love to camp in the infield at Talladega someday. Maybe when my boys get a little older. What's involved, what does it cost?
Thanks,

Yeah, I have sat through a lot of CA races to get to that one. We were on the backstretch with a perfect view of 3 and 4, so that was pretty dang good. Watched Shrub shoot through on the high side too. The mini packs rounding the turns together all fanned out was damned impressive.

Anybody can do it although many are sold out. I buy every year off of Craig's list. This year, No BS, I paid $210 for the site and two weekend wristbands. Face Value was $400. You can pay as much as $600 for same at Fontana. Some tracks are more. Michigan's site has all prices. Good to look there. Don't know about Talledega.

It is a VERY special experience. There is just something cool about this little city that pops up. All race fans, all there for the whole weekend. Everybody is smiling ear to ear. Waaaaay fun.

Re: NASCAR - Fontana

I figured you were hiding from the thread for the same reason I have had to.

Man, I hope they put Elliot Sadler in the 11. No way that Denny is going to race. They are talking minimum of a back brace or surgery. Either way he can't flippin' be moving around at all.

I figured snowmobiling was going to be more fun. I could still watch the race except w/o all the commercials.. :) Probably will miss a bunch of live races this summer if the weather is good. Our summers are short enough as it is, so I'll be enjoying the outdoors rather than sitting behind the tube for 3/4 hours. The bad thing is, I can't participate in the threads!

I heard on NASCAR radio today from some health professionals who called in and said if Denny needs surgery, he could be out for a year. I guess time will tell. Don't want to put the cart before the horse.

Sadler would be at the top of the list to take over the 11........

I am now officially an 11 fan: http://www.frontstretch.com/mneff/42668/

I have liked Elliot Sadler since he got his first win at Bristol in the #21. And then he pushed Ward Burton to the 2002 Daytona 500 win. He's good in a car, and he is good on TV. I think the guy is waaaay cool. Hopefully they will be competitive and people will take a second look at him for Cup.

Thanks,

anybody can do it but it gets pricey, and you have to stay the weekend I believe. Was going to take my camper into Daytona this sumemr but I think I'll stay in Orlando like normal and then drive to the race.

Repeat. I got my spot along with two tics for $210. Total. Craig's list. You can leave once if you take the RV. You can come and go as you please on foot. These are Fontana policies, but some tracks are similar. All have info posted on the individual track sites.

He went to his own doctor. I guess no surgery is required as of today. Just taking 6 weeks of rest. His chance at a championship are gone.....

I just saw that Mark Martin is taking over the 11 while Denny heals.

Is that for sure? I know his name was tossed out there today too with Sadler. Earlier today they hadn't made a decision.....

How often has Martin retired now? 2-3 times?

Just once I think, I have a friend that used to work for Rousch (25 years ago) and he told me that some people will go to extremes to get out. :) Koolaid?

I've been an Elliot Sadler fan for a long time, bummer QC....but I think it will add to his motivation to win the Nationwide championship....

Re: NASCAR - Fontana

I would think Sadler would have more to prove in Cup and would be hungrier than Martin. Kind of a surprise since all they talked about was Sadler, for the most part.....

Hunger or not, Martin seriously kicks butt as a fill-in driver. That he has proven. I'm still pizzed though.
