Re: NASCAR news

GA, you deleted the last quote bracket somehow. I just up that back in to make the quote a quote instead of seeing the words "quote" and "unquote". Just a little housekeeping!

Yeah, you need to always keep one eye on GA.........:twitch::der::pound:

But will NASCAR, Stuart/Haas?

GoDaddy leaving IndyCar, will stick with Danica for "long time":
Andretti Autosport will announce a new primary sponsor Saturday to replace GoDaddy next season on the car currently driven by James Hinchcliffe. As GoDaddy prepares for a global launch next year its spending allocation had to be re-evaluated. GoDaddy currently sponsors #10-Danica Patrick in NASCAR and Hinchcliffe in IndyCar, and [CEO Blake Irving] Irving decided IndyCar didn't make fiscal sense. "We looked at our customer acquisition costs and it's an audience size issue," Irving said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "The customer acquisition costs between the web, between regular TV and between NASCAR and IndyCar, IndyCar is the most expensive acquisition vehicle we have. It was pretty expensive on a per customer cost."
Despite the decision to leave IndyCar, Irving, who took over as CEO in January, said NASCAR remains a valuable market for GoDaddy. He also said the company is thrilled with its relationship with Patrick. "We frankly love Danica and think that Danica represents and personifies what GoDaddy represents small businesses and people who have ideas," Irving said. "Here's a woman who had an idea and went through the challenges to become a driver in a male dominated sport. She represents the idea that the totally impossible is possible and we love that kind of person. She's going to be with us for an awful, awful long time."(Associated Press)(10-19-2013)

You better keep :single_eye: on me.

I think GoDaddy is putting most of their eggs in the TV basket. IndyCar is dying on the vine with virtually no TV coverage and GD is primarily a TV advertiser. So, it stands to reason that nascar, via Danica, will be the place. And the Super Bowl.

I agree with you GA, sad to say but open whee simply doesn't have the market share of NASCAR, and Godaddy is making a good business decision, besides the obvious that Patrick and Godaddy make a good team.

There was a thread on this on a racing forum I frequent. Cliff notes: GoDaddy probably would have preferred to leave IndyCar at the same time Danica did but there was a contract in place with Andretti Autosports. In return for AA releasing Danica to go to NASCAR, GoDaddy agreed to stay on a limited basis til the end of the contract which is this year. I'm a fan of IndyCar so it pains me to say this, but the ROI just is not there. It's not widely popular, doesn't have very many races and relatively few viewers of those races.

IndyCar has a 500 mile race at Fontana tonight starting at 8:00 pm Eastern. How many of you will be watching?

Yep - The season finale only on NBCSN, the last broadcast race was early July on ABC. And they lost IZOD as the series sponsor, so now what.

Re: NASCAR news

I'm trying to watch Indy if they ever start it. Just heard the last half of the National Anthem. Not sure who she was that sang it, but how pathetic.... I don't know why some singers have the need to put their own twist on it..... Her rendition was really, really bad..........

I see 'Dinger is racing.. Go AJ!

Re: NASCAR news

I was there ^^^^^ first time for IndyCar. Pretty exciting. Most of the action happened right in front of us on the Backstretch coming out of turn 2.

Re: NASCAR news

Hey QC, what kind of crowd turnout did they have?

Just wondering, cause crowds have been down for most all sports events lately.

I hope the track owners can survive.

Re: NASCAR news

I'd like to go see an Indy race. I think it would be more exciting in person than on tv, and last nites race wasn't bad at all. Just the different sound and sheer speed(220mph + ) would be awesome...... Say, who won the championship? I didn't stay up and watch the whole thing.

Roscoe, from what I saw on tv the place looked pretty empty considering the capacity of the stands.....

Re: NASCAR news

Crowd was bigger than I expected. They were spread out pretty good. I think they expected 50K, I am thinking maybe 40K. The place holds 100, but they close off the ends to pack them in better.

Infield was less than 25% of NASCAR. We had friends there so we joined them for the race.

It was waaaaaay cool. Absolutely loved watching these cars run. Significantly different than watching NASCAR, and they were much more aggressive than I expected. I always thought without fenders they would stay further apart. There was some great three wide battles, and you can tell this track was designed for those cars. With fresh tires they were running 219 MPH laps. That means at least 240 into turn 1 I think. I don't think they can flat foot it, but it did look like it. They way they danced around in the corners was amazing. I would definitely go again. Scott Dixon won the Championship and Will Power the race.

Re: NASCAR news

I went for a little shuteye after the "big one". It's amazing how they do dart around at those speeds. I see Helio finished 6, 1 lap down? Looks like only 9 cars running at the end with 5 on the lead lap. Stuff like that probably doesn't help the ratings.

I wonder how much ratings has to do with Juan going back to Indycar? I wonder if they're hoping Juan will bring some NASCAR fans with him? Although, not too sure how many fans he had...... I used to watch him in F1 and Indy before he came over. I liked him in open wheel, not so much in Cup. I would bet he'll be making more money back at Indy. Unless he had absolutely no offers in Cup.....

Re: NASCAR news

It is a very fast track. Fontana track facts:

"On October 28, 2000, during CART qualifying, Gil de Ferran set the track record for fastest lap at 241.426 mph (388.537 km/h). As of March 2012, this is the fastest lap speed ever recorded at an official race meeting and the fastest ever lap on a closed racing circuit.[18] The 2003 Indycar race was the fastest circuit race ever in motorsport history, with an average speed of 207.151 mph (333.377 km/h) over 400 miles (640 km)"

Obviously very little yellow flag time in 2003. By comparison, last night's race average was 154.867 with 55 laps of caution.

Re: NASCAR news

More news from nascar;

NASCAR will require drivers to undergo baseline concussion testing starting in 2014 - Autoweek

I think this is a first in sports. I don't think the NFL does baseline concussion testing, don't remember anyway.

NASCAR is looking into changing its qualifying format, moving from single car qualifying to group - Autoweek

I guess they want to shorten how long qualifying takes. Bristol would be interesting! For Daytona and 'Dega, will they allow more than one backup car? Will we be seeing new track records at the super speedways?

Re: NASCAR news

And if you have a beef with someone you can put them in the wall during qualifying...... :)

I was listening to NASCAR radio yesterday and they were talking about qualifying. I guess at the superspeedways you go out as much as you want in that hour timeframe and they'll take your fastest lap..... Except for grabbing the poll for a spot in the All Star weekend, or whatever it's called now, where you qualify doesn't really matter......

Re: NASCAR news

About the only thing is grabbing a point for leading the first lap, if you can hold the lead.

And why would any driver want to side draft a fellow competitor into the wall? Aren't they all good buddies on the track?:D

Re: NASCAR news

IMHO the biggest benefit of the pole is the number #1 pit stall ;)

First stall choice - I've seen where the pole winner took a stall in the middle that was open behind it because it's easier to get into. 99% of the time they take #1. All depends on the track, I guess.

Re: NASCAR news

I didn't used to buy into it, but the drop and go straight thing is big. Plus they can speed in the last segment going in. Agree, there are other premium spots, btu I don't recall the last time a pole winner took other than #1. Curious for sure.

Re: NASCAR news

plus the 1st pit stall is closest to the timing line/pit exit line which is an advantage on yellow flag pit stops.

not sure how to feel about the proposed qualifying changes but the concussion baseline is a very good thing, I still think Kahne had a concussion at the race a couple weeks ago with that weird interview....

Re: NASCAR news

Back at the Sonoma race in 2011, Joey Logano took stall #11 after winning the pole. In fact the first six positions took stalls other than #1. Finally the #7 qualifier took the first pit. Notebook: Gordon may be a target at Infineon - NASCAR - Sporting News

Why No. 11 is better than No. 1

At an oval track, it's a no-brainer that the top qualifier will choose pit stall No. 1, closest to the exit from pit road.

So why did Greg Zipadelli, crew chief for polesitter Joey Logano, choose pit stall No. 11?just short of the start/finish line?for Sunday's race?

Quite simply, there are considerations at the 1.99-mile road course that don't apply at an oval track. Here's the explanation:

Given the likelihood of green-flag pit stops and the danger of running out of fuel, Zipadelli opted for a pit stall that gives the team room to push-start the car in a situation where it's out of gas. There's a small opening in front of pit stall No. 11, which would give the team room to push the car without rolling through another team's pit box.

AJ Allmendinger's crew chief, Mike Shiplett, chose pit stall No. 1 with the seventh pick. Yes, there's a clear exit from pit road, but there's also a risk. If Allmendinger happens to run out of fuel, his team won't be able to push-start the car, because of the proximity of pit stall No. 1 to the racing surface.

That's why the first 10 stalls at Infineon aren't popular picks with most crew chiefs.

I almost wore out my Google button finding that, but I knew it was somewhere.
