"Mountain Oysters", down here are the delicacy product produced by the bucketfull whent the young lambs are being castrated. Testicles fried on the spade or BBQ'd and eaten hot! A young man has to try that one once in his life. Funny though, a lot of women tried it as well.
Ross

got to throw my 2 C in on this one. This summer in port clinton I had of all things a hot dog from a vendor. I was sick for 2 days and I tell you I will never eat that street meat again........

Yeah, my stint in Korea definately involved eating some good unknown chow. The dog wasn't too bad, nor was kimchi. I actually liked Korean food, maybe I have issues.....

Now chitlins, that is a whole 'nuther world altogether. Ick......

I'm with Miloman on the hotdogs.... NEVER! ain't had a hotdog in probably 20 years...

There's one other food that about makes me gag just from looking at it... Getting nauseous just typing this... Add smell and it's darn near a barf-a-thon... Macaroni & cheeze... don't ask, just don't...

Never had the pleasure of the New Jolo Club, but a friend who was in the Navy has explained it in terms I understood :) Sounds like my kind of place.

Probably the strangest thing I ever ate was in this country. Years ago I was in N.Y.C. to attend a wedding & we went to dinner at an Italian place in Little Italy called Puglias (I think). I was challenged to order an appetizer...and did...half of a sheeps head...cooked on a grill no less. It was strange..I managed to eat the cheek meat, tongue, brains etc., but no matter how much wine I drank, I could not bring myself to eat that yellow eye staring up at me. Other than that, the nastiest food known to man is boiled chittlins.

How 'boput grasscutter - kind of a Ghanaian cross between groundhog and rat. Meat is not bad in flavor, but boy does it stink!

i was gonna skip this topic, but after seeing what snapper wrote about the macNcheez, i hafta say its the same way i get when thinkin about that soured pickled egg . i got a whole jar from my sis, but i didn't realize the few on the top had gone bad. my adams apple is quivering just typing this... it took 2 wks just to get the nerve to take the jar out in the woods and dump it out & run.

For the last few years I have avoided eating any cerebral nerve tissue. The advent of mad-cow did not stop with cows. Over 200 species of animals have been infected, even shrimp. So far as anyone can tell, only contamination is via the consumption of brain. Spinal nerve tissue isn’t an issue, yet. :(

Born and raised in PA Dutch country, we did our own butchering every winter. We made and ate alot of things which my wife(from a different state)finds disgusting, such as scrapple, liver pudding, cow and pork brains, pig stomach, etc.. The one she finds strangest of all though was made during the larding process. It consists purely of pig fat, deep fried in itself until brown, and eaten with a little salt. Anyone else ever hear of this? Big DDL

BigDDL, I eat them all the time, good low carb snack. The Mexicans have been making them for years. Here you can get them in all flavors, hot 'n spicy, plain, vinegar and lime and b-b-q.

That is good stuff BigDDL, tried it about 2 years ago. I too slaughter my own Beef & Pork critters. I do not rummage through the gutpile for anything though. There is a Vietnamese lady at work that comes up on slaughter day and takes the heart, liver, kidneys, tongue, stomach and intestines.

She is a great cook and gives me goodies throughout the year for "sharing" my garbage with her. She is the one that had me try the fried pork fat. I won't eat any of the stomach/chest cavity organs she takes. :p

But did they taste good before you knew what they were? Did it bring on the gag reflex while it was in your mouth :p Balute should be on fear factor or survivor or something because the smell of it brings on the gag reflex :p
