is it possible to put my stern light on the engine cowling? I have a 13' whaler, and I need to mount the stern light. I have to use a "folding" light I can't use the kind that plug in. If I can mount to engine cowling...what is the best way?

Re: Navigation Lights

Mark your holes and take the cover off and pree drill the holes first and use a piece of wood on the inside as a plate and screw it together using 3M glue

You can mount it to the engine cover but you wand to place a substantial plate inside the cover to secure the light.

Why not mount it off of a small aluminum plate and attach it to the stern or back corner of the boat.

No difference than running the cables to the stern. Just finish up your cables in the motor. Route the cables together with any other control cables you might have already going into the motor. Make sure you ad a connector inside so you can disconnect the cable easy in case you have to remove the cowling.

Personally, I will use a bracken and attach it to the boat.

exactly, i use a 2 prong, trailer type plug, just outside the cowl, route the wire under the cowl, so they do not get burnt. i did not have a reasonable, place to mount the light, i hate the plug in lights, this folded down out of the way of fishing. the newer one piece cowls you can mount right on top, the idea came for an boat is saw many years ago, done the same way.

"damn TD...is there anything you can't do ", not really when i set my mind to it. there is a solution to every problem.. just requires studying it with a few adult beverages.

when i buy a project, other than cleaning it out, i do not touch it for atleast a week. i let my mind wander, and come up with the best solution, for the type use.
