I need to get new trailer tires for a couple trailers I have found commodore tires locally for a good deal. I have searched around and can not really find any info. I would like to know what you have to say about them or heard about them.

Well I have read some were they were made by / for goodyear not sure if that is true since they have a bad name marathon tires like carlisle. I have also read that the goodyear marathons are made in china know also which I will not own marathons or carlisle anyway.

A Marathon trailer tire will probably be the best longest lasting tire you'll buy. Best trailer tires I've ever owned.

Marathons are only good if you're not going to travel far with your trailer i.e. local use.... I had a set and they wore out in a year...of course I travel a lot but I thought I'd get more use out of them than I did. Anything made in China is crap IMO.

China makes good and bad depending on the bean counter in USA that is contracting with them....the chinese are glad to to manufacture whatever the market dictates.

I have Goodyear Marathons on the camper and they far outshined the original camper tires which were wearing badly and unevenly at 4000 miles. I have lost count, but suspect I have close to 40,000 miles on the Marathons (using the spare in rotation), including a 6000 mile trip to northern California. I have spoken with others who swear by them, also. I will make sure they are not now made in China before I replace them with another set.

Marathons are made in china know and if you go to tirerack and start reading pages and pages of marathon reviews they all say they are junk I know the older ones were good. I need 8 of them alone my camper needs them and so does my car trailer both take the same size. Lucky by boat does not need them yet. My budy is also looking for tires for his boat and camper also so we are buying 16 and trying to find something worth a crap.

Okay, blame it on the Americans.......

Of course it's not Chinas fault for making crap, correct? I mean there's some reason they make crap and it has to be our fault and not theirs...

Sheesh, give me a break.

Much as you may not like it, that is the way it works. Whomever is importing or selling the tires (or whatever product you want to talk about) specifies the specs and a price target for the manufacturing company - whether they are in China or anywhere else. You can get wildly different product qualities coming out of the same plant, depending on what the requirements were. (The same reason that the 4 main manufacturers of batteries produce private branded models that fall from crap to stellar)

Back to the original question - I've personally had very good luck with Kenda Loadstars which I generally buy from etrailer. They have a good range of sizes and tend to come in higher load ratings than other brands. No idea where they were made, have never bothered to look and don't care.

I second the vote for Loadstars. Got mine at easternmarine.

(and the silly china discussion can end now or this thread will be locked).

You're a moderator and you can do what you want. The OP asked, "I need to get new trailer tires for a couple trailers I have found commodore tires locally for a good deal. I have searched around and can not really find any info. I would like to know what you have to say about them or heard about them."

It appears that in a discussion of trailer tires, because of where most if not all of them are made, its difficult if not impossible to eliminate china from the discussion.

Kenda has plants in Taiwan, China, and Vietnam. I've had good luck with their Loadstars so far myself.
