Re: Neighbor asked to borrow my Chaparral

Only two people in this world would be allowed to borrow my boat.

My dad he and I switch he gets to use my ski boat I get to use the toon its joint property to us.

My best friend Adam if he broke it he would fix it, he would return it with a full tank of gas vaccuum it out, and cover it back when he was done.

Any one that I would even consider loaning my boat or my bike to would never even think about asking for such a thing. Unless I offer without their asking, it ain't happening.

My marina owner takes my boat all the time. Its used as the rescue tug for our lake. :)

Ron is the only one that can take my boat without me being there. :)

I don't want freinds that stupid or ignorant and I don't care where they came from, my wife is Chinese, don't believe it. Like anywhere else , there are chinese with absolutely impeccable manners and ignorants.

My response...

Re: Neighbor asked to borrow my Chaparral

I don't have to worry about my family or friends borrowing my boat because they all have their own already. But, if a family member or one of my close friends asked, I'd say, have at 'er....... Heck, my brother let me borrow his for a long weekend when we were staying at a resort. At the time, his was better for bigger water and longer runs. He offered it up and I said, thanks. I have borrowed out cars and snowmobiles to others who were friends. If something happens, that's what insurance is for. In the OPs scenario, I would never borrow out my boat in that situation....

A friend of mine USED TO leave his boats in the water all summer for all friends / family to use. Then one day someone forgot to mix oil w/ the gas and cooked his outboard. It's a tough to say no, but I don't think a non-boat-owner has any appreciation for the expense / work that is involved in owning / maintaining a boat. I'll repeat--he USED TO let everyone use his boats.

My only question is just how many pages back did you have to look for this year-old thread to post a reply to it? ;)

Actually, I'm setting up a little boat just to loan out. I take kids fishing, then load the little basstender to their dads. It's amazing what it does for families.

Yep, it's a ministry.

I take pride in knowing everything that has happened to my boat since I have purchased it. I don't understand why someone would want to "borrow" my boat. Why wouldn't they want me to come along?

Re: Neighbor asked to borrow my Chaparral

Someone living close by isn't a neighbor just by geography, he isn't a neighbor.
I don't have freinds so ignorant that they have no dignity of privacy or awareness of ownership.

Well since you brought it back from the dead and I'm the op, I can say I haven't seen the neighbor again an he didn't come back in the spring looking to use it. Maybe if I had a second alum fishing boat at the house available, I'd think about it only because the family is about the hardest working bunch I've ever encountered and I'd put odds on them fixing what they broke. Four generations live in the house and they all work the restaurant all the way down to the 6 year old.

Re: Neighbor asked to borrow my Chaparral

The idea that this could somehow be a cultural issue is comical. What you have is a pushy person (not a friend, not anything) who would ask anyone anything for his/her benefit. Some really nice comments here about why this guy would ask, but come on, in the end he just rude enough to not be bothered even asking a total stranger, to borrow a very expensive, personal object. Two wrongs don?t make a right, but I would have no problem saying very direct-?NO?. Why should I feel weird because he is acting selfishly? I don?t, not even a little bit.

And if you want to really take to a fun level, ask him, why he would ask a total stranger to borrow a expensive personal item.

The only answer for the neihbor is not to "say NO but Say HE-- NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (Toby Keith) That kind of up front behavior is uncomprehendable.

There is no reason to re-hash this subject the second time. Thread closed.
