Where the diizzy cap is, does not impact where the position is for the most part.

Once your at 1 TDC, then align the oil pump to where the dizzy will slide in place close to where the dizzy can be rotated to align with the rotor and the tab location. The rotor must point directly at the position indicated in the pic

If the rotor is to far off, it needs to be lifted and rotated so you have room to install.

The flat of the dist houssing must face the intake manifold this puts the connector at about 1"30 not what is depicted on the manual. that is for illustration purposes only

It drops in but not pointing in correct position?
If this is the case, rotate the oil pump slot a little counter clockwise and then try again. Once in the outer body can be rotated to align the tab

Yes it drops in and seats all the way to the oil pump but isn’t where I need it to get the cap to fit then I go back the other way with the oil pump like you’re saying and then pull it up a little try to get it back a tooth which would be the correct spot but it seems like it wants to jump back 2 teeth and then is too far the other way. I did this back and forth with the oil pump for 1.5 hours last night and it would not drop where I need it.

To me it sure seems like if I bring in help they’ll have the same issue just going off how long I’ve spent on trying this and haven’t succeeded.

But it may be time to call in some help!

Thanks guys

Pics would be best
Once in the tab is aligned as shown and dizzy is locked down, then the cap goes on. Now if the cap will not go on because something is in the way, that is another issue and needs to be rotated more

I see the problem, rotate the dist body CCW about a inch or 1 1/2 .The blue line MUST face forward against the intake manifold.

Ok I’ll try that but when the flat part of base is lined up with what you see of the intake it seems to throw the cap off and looks like it’s cocked in there.

But ill try try it again

thanks

the cap is slightly off when installed because you need t have room to install the screws and to have the coils connection miss the bracket

Ok yes it prolly would fit in that way. My first picture shows the rotor facing that way like your green line but wouldn’t line up on the base like the books shows?

Where your green line is it doesn’t seem it will meet your blue line in the corner when all lined up?
Cause we can’t forget with the rotor and base line up?

look at the dist base , you should see a small number 8, the rotor should be within a few degrees of that with the flat of the housinf facing the manifold
