New (to me) boat quirks. OMC 2.3L

I recently purchased a 1989 17' Bowrider with an OMC 2.3L I/O. It is a lightly used boat with a freshly rebuilt carb and I am tuning up the points, plugs, etc this weekend. I have noticed that it really pitches up and stays that way when I am driving alone. I have the tilt all the way down but it still struggles to plane. How can I check to see if there is water between the outer and inner layer skins weighing down the back and causing this imbalance? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to iboats :)
Could be a prop issue....
Could be a tune up issue...
You should post the make of the boat....
It will enable the forum to better answer your question ....JK

Jaxson, presumably if it was waterlogged at the back it would sit lower in the water at standstill?

Are you achieving the correct engine revs at full throttle?

I am not sure if its possible but couldnt you use a normal damp meter you use on house walls?

have it weighed. nada will give boat weight, there is a site for engine and outdrive weight. figure trailer weight. if you are over you have water. or you can drill a couple of test holes and epoxy the back if dry.

Thanks. All good suggestions. It is a 17' Forester. If I drilled a hole to check where would be the best location. On the transom perhaps. also how would a tune up affect the trim of the boat? It seems to sit the same level in the water but it throws a spray just aft of midway down the hull. I don't remember if it did that the first time I had it out. Thanks in advance.
