So what I am hearing is that they are going to give you a void warranty? Yes, this sounds like great news to me! Please, as a suggestion, get the warranty in writing just for piece of mind over the entire season. There will be other issues, like with any boat, but it would be nice for you to not have to worry of overcoming this one all over again. Congrats! :)

something doesn't add up here...... How is the water getting into the boat..... It isn't coming through a chip......

A "chip with a void" sings bad things to me.... Ever shoot plywood with a gun.... small hole in the front and major damage on the backside.... I hope this isn't the case but you have water getting in somewhere....

So, let me ask you guys. If I get a written warranty for the repairs, and they are fixing the 4 dings for free, do I really care how they do it?

So far they have been very good to me. I don't want to become a pain in the ***. At the same time, I don't want to be misled.

I think this should be a judgement call on your part. Do what you think is right because we aren't there. We shouldn't be judging so much just by looking at posts in a forum we see from hundreds or thousands of miles away. Just do what seems right to you... you can always go back and raise hell if need be.

At this point, I would let them do the repairs and test for water-tightness. A written warranty would be lovely, but I wouldn't count on getting one.

Re: New to me bowrider, have some questions...

What a great read! I had a similar situation 5 years back on my Maxum. Just like you I was getting water in the bilge and could not find the source. One day my doughtier threw a towel in the anchor locker and forgot about it. At the end of the day before storing the boat I found it and it was soaking wet? So next time out I emptied the locker, dried everything out and run the boat hard. The locker was dry. I assumed the towel must have been wet when she threw it in there, I remember skoaling her about throwing wet towels in lockers and leaving them to rot and mildew. After my rant I began loading the boat and the family. We started to move slowly out of the marina and I was about to store the anchor when to my surprise there was a steady stream of water coming into the locker from the bow hook bolts. Turned out the bow hook became little loose and at slow speed the pressure wave was forcing water in at good rate, once we picked up speed and the bow rose nothing was coming in. All it took was to loosen the back plate, re silicone mating surfaces and re tighten - never leaked again. It's something you might mention to the mechanic, sometimes it is the simplest things that cause most problems. Good luck.

Wow, that made me think of something. When I first saw the boat, I found the bow hook was loose. They quickly found that it's very easy to get to an tightened the bolts.

But, I will say, the bow hook is way up there. When I took the boat out myself, I really don't think it's touching the water at all, even at slow speeds. I could be wrong though.

Its something to think about.

Maybe the suspense just won't die! I sure hope it does soon though. This is tough on me!

on the hull repair.... it REALLY depends on what is actually wrong.... if it's just superficial then it really is a simple thing.... I could tell a LOT more in 10 seconds of putting my hands on the boat than in hours of reading on here.... I would say that if you have ANY doubts then get a second opinion... Pay someone in the know $50 to ride up with you and look at it... Maybe talk to someone at another marina.

Didn't you say that the marina folks said water was pouring in when they slid the boat off the trailer? They need to account for that.

This might sound crazy but you can just use duck tape to seal the damaged glass area and dip it in the water. The tape will work as a temporary seal and it will stay on at low speeds. As to the bow eye, yours is no higher than mine was (from the picture) and if it was loose you should re seal and then re tighten it. Don't loose the faith, I got a feeling that between the two things you will have nice, dry boat to enjoy. Regards Zig.

I think I'm going to let them repair the hull and let them water test it. I'll send them an e-mail asking them to check the bow hook. It's on their coin, you know?

I'm tied up this weekend anyway.

Not yet. I told them to take their time over the weekend and make sure it's right. I was busy with the in-laws anyway :(

I'm Ill hear from them soon. I'll absolutely let you guys know what they say when they call.

Re: New to me bowrider, have some questions...

I talked to the marina this morning. They said they'll have it finished up tomorrow so I can pick it up on Thursday. They are going to also re-seal the bow hook as well.

The weather doesn't look great this weekend, but we'll see. I'll at least take it out for 15 minutes or so again just to make sure she's not taking on water anymore.

For it's age, it's possible it still has the origional bellows and gimble bearing leading to the sloppy handling in the wheel and the leak.

Beautiful boat BTW.

Re: New to me bowrider, have some questions...

How long has it been, a month? Not the fastest marina around, but at least they didn't charge me for the repairs. They have it all finished up and I'm going to pick it up this afternoon. My parents are coming into town this weekend and we are taking the boat out on Sunday. So....I guess we'll see how they did.

Anyway, I'll post some pictures of their repairs tonight once I get it home.

They are, and they had agreed to, but they are swamped and aren't going to be able to drop it in the water today. Today is the only day I have to pick it up. I told him that I'm taking it out on Sunday, if it leaks at all it'll be back in the shop. He agreed, but feels that I'm not going to have any problems.

I'm going to get a written receipt of the work they did, to protect myself.

Re: New to me bowrider, have some questions...

Well guys, I think this book is finally closed. My wife and myself took my parents out on the boat today for the first time since I got it back. The boat was dry as can be! The engine ran flawlessly, the steering was perfect, and everybody absolutely loved the boat. My parents couldn't believe how smooth it rides. I let my dad drive the boat all the way from the restaurant back to the ramp (about 30 minutes), and he loved that.

Anyway, when I pulled the plug after spending 3 hours in the water, bone dry! Literally ZERO water came out! Can you believe that?!?!

I'm very lucky, and very happy!

Thank you everyone for all of your help and support
Steve
