Don't be.. It's been well cared for... Takes neglect to get rot..
They should hook you up on the repair.. You paid a pretty penny for that boat( without a dang trailer) on their word.. I am sure they made a commission and don't want to be known for being shady..

On a smaller note... If your going UPSTREAM and your boat speedo is 3-5 mph faster then the GPS, Its probable cuz the river flows 3-5 MPH. Try it going DOWNSTREAM and you may see that reversed. GPS may be 3-5 MPH faster then GPS. I boat the Missississississippippippi and the the St Croix and have experienced that same issue.Purdy boat BTW!

I'm feeling better. The mechanics ran the engine checking for leaks from the engine and also checked the boots. Everything checked out. I left it with them so they can take drop it in the watter tomorrow and try to figure out where the water is coming from. They asked if there were any other problems so I told them about the idle problem and the steering. They are going to check all that out.

I'm not out of the woods, but I'm feeling better about how they are going to handle this.

Yep! Finally got her. I know it's a boat, and an older boat, but I wasn't expecting this many expensive repairs.

Yea...that's a real dinosaur ya got there .....I'm thinkin Infidel and I should come take that eye sore outta the driveway for ya! Come on man! Mines 31 years old.....I'd consider yours a new boat compared to old stuff I buy...My 1980 is the newest one I've owned!...The trailer is a 2001 :D

You'll find the leak....can't be anything too serious....it's a rubber part somewhere that needs replaced.

Here are some pictures of the ol' lady.

My wife wants to drop an "S" and an "E" from the first word. She makes me laugh.

I'd be devastated if it's a rotted transom.

I know, but do you remember a few months ago that dude with mid 90's Sea Ray? That thing was absolutely beautiful and when he got it home, he found the entire thing was rotten.

I'm on board with crossed fingers that it only needs a bellows or reseal.
My 89 had that need the first year I had it. It turned out to be a bellows leak. I never found my leak, which was far slower than yours. I'd get a couple of gallons in a day's use. Could leave it slipped overnight without leak. The boat was 21 years old that year.

Wish you cheap repairs and long wakes!

Beautiful boat, I'm partial to Mariah's though. :) I hope to read a happy ending to this story, and I too would find it hard to believe that the transom would be rotten. Heck the original interior to me indicates that boat never ever got left outside exposed to the elements. My boat is a '98 that has spent it's entire life indoors and it shows more wear than that!

SShhhhhhhhhhh!!! It's rotten alright. I can tell from the pics. Oh, man...that's one rotten POS. Tell you what...I'll give you $3k for it right now, to help ease the pain of getting a rotten boat. You can take that money and go buy a nice healthy '88 Bayliner Capri, with a 85hp Force outboard on it, and you won't have to worry about all this I/O rotten transom nonsense again. ok? :D

I just sold my bayliner capri with an 85 force on the back. Trust me dude thats a sweet deal. Take infidel up on it. If he offered me that for my Baja I would be there!

Re: New to me bowrider, have some questions...

It sure looks pretty but unfortunately it's no indication of the condition of the transom so it needs to be checked.

The biggest cause of transom rot is leaks where the leg goes through - water leaks into the wood core and the rot starts. I have a good feeling that is not the case here and you will be fine but it's a salutary lesson for everyone to have these things checked out before you purchase.

We have recently seen a few examples of where silicone has been used by a PO to try and seal a water leak around the leg rather than dismantling and repairing correctly - a true recipe for finding a rotten transom. If you see any form of sealant around the leg on an I/O then run and don't look back (unless you like rebuilding transoms of course LOL).
