Hi my name is Mark. I just bought my first boat (how come I feel like I am at an AA meeting saying that LOL)

it's a 1976 Arrowglass. I am not Quite sure of the model, so if anyone knows I'd love to know myself. it has an OMC 165 hp straight 6 (250 chevy I believe) with an OMC stringer 800 outdrive. the tilt is broken, but I am in the process of getting that all straightened out.

I bought it running but needing some TLC. I totally gutted the interior and cleaned it up, Nothing fancy just some carpet, slapped in some car seats I had, and cleaned up the sloppy wiring and cables. it really cleaned up nice!
I opted for Wood because It was semi cheap (I have a line on wood) and I could do it myself. I think the wood really makes her look classy!

I also did a little bit of wiring repair. put in a new tach. and made sure everything worked. ok most everything. I still need to tinker under the dash a bit. but it is 90% there and working!

I took it out on the water before I fixed the speedo (needed a pitot) and it ran really nice. since the tilt does not work (housing is chipped where the worm gear goes, looks like I need an intermediate housing) I can't use reverse. I didn't even try to put it in reverse. Other than that it worked great. I don't know how fast it went, but at cruising speed it felt really fast. and was keeping up with or passing most of the other ski boats on the water. next time out I'll know how fast it really went. and maybe dial in the prop.

It's not the best looking boat out there but for a $500 boat I think it's really nice. I put about $300 more into it for the repairs I have done so far. That includes a new battery and a fold up wheel for the trailer.

Take a look tell me what you think! and any help on a model would be GREAT! the one thing that makes me wonder about model. is the humps on the sides of the body near the back of the boat. I have seen several Arrowglass boast like mine but NONE with the humps. not even searching the net.

Hi Mark (said in the droll response to someone in aa introducing themselves).

Pretty interesting project. Have fun with it!

What if anything do you plan on doing to protect the seats against water?
They look like they'd soak it right in, and you might have trouble drying them.

Might also want to consider some type of protection for the lumber. Over time, water may get to it.

Welcome to iboats....nice job on a small budget....woodwork looks clean, did you clear coat it ? The seats look comfy and if they get too wet , use a shop vac on them and let them sit in the sun...that will do until you fall deeper into your new addiction...lol...nice graphics on the transom too !

The seats were freebies, so I am not really worried too much about them. I used them now because they fit. they were cheap and it saved me buying new lounge seats for a while. if anything I think I will try and find some waterproof covers for now.

Besides as long as I keep it up right they should stay dry right? (thats a joke you know)

The wood was all stained with 3 coats of Spar varnish so it should be waterproof for quite a while!

I have one more question. kind of off topic. but hey I'm new at this.

I saw the sticky on boating rules. is there a good place to go for boating rules/laws on a lake?

I want to know the basics. which side to pass on. what all the buoys mean. etc. thanks

Looks better than my recent $500 boat.

Look in the "Things you need to know" thread stuck to the top of this section of the forum. Look at "Free Boating Certificate"

You can buy seat covers by the box of 50 at the hardware store and grocery store. Clear, black, or sometimes silver. Some even have a draw string at the bottom.

LOL. awesome the silver would be a nice touch... ( I feel my neck getting red )

Thanks to the others for the info on courses to take. I have been on boats many times but never was the Skipper, so I really want to know what is right and wrong. not what people say is the way to do it..

I know I have only $1000 into it so far. I am SURE the outdrive is going to cost me a bunch to get RIGHT. but I figure it's worth it. I like the older stuff anyways... makes people look at you when you are on the water or even towing it to the lake.
