I personally want the Rangers to take it, I am a huge John Tortorella fan. Speaking of, what did you think about him lashing out at the hecklers the other night? Personally, I feel that as a professional athlete / coach you can only take so much heckling. And then there is a fine line that many people like to cross.

John, your Wings beat us like a rented mule last year ... a lot was learned, the young guns grew up a lot that series. Then we picked up some studs and started playing the way we were capable of playing all season ... I think any team with the Pens on their playoff schedule should be worried ... ;) :p

The only thing undetermined at this point is whether the Pens lose to Boston in round 2 , or to Washington in Round 2. ;)
East ~Boston is just a quantum level above everyone else in the East and have no inherent weakness that anyone else in their divison has the ability to exploit.

West, where the action is ~ Lots of discussion about the Sharks choking against a lowly 8 seed in round 1, but that has been the historical norm in recent years in the NHL West.
The West is so tight and the playoff races go down to the wire. The last two teams to make the post-season have been effectively playing playoff hockey, win-or-go-home, for weeks already. They get in to the dance firing on all cylinders and can knock off anyone.
The Oilers 2006 miracle was from the 8th spot...2005 - lockout year....2004, we had the Women of the Red Mile celebrating the Flames run....as an 8th seed....and in 2003, the Ducks only avoided the 8th spot in the last couple of games in the season, and came out of the west from #7.

With the lockout factored in, that makes 4 of the last 6 years that a number 7 or 8 seed has knocked off the #1 or 2 seed in the first round.
Anaheim is anyone's worst nightmare, and have likely already punched their ticket to the final.

It might be a lot of choking, but obviously the term the Wild West doesn't refer only to John Wayne and Audie Murphy movies.

***** Spoiler alert *****

Anaheim over Wings in 6 / VCVR over Chicago in 5/ Ducks beat Canucks in 6
Boston comes out of the East and loses in 5 to the Ducks.

Re: NHL Playoffs ...

Where to begin? Well I don't know if I have a particular single favorite yet...but....
New York/Washington: I'm pulling for Washington mostly because of Ovechkin...he is just great to watch and he deserves to go a distance.
Carolina/New Jersey.......sound of crickets.
Pittsburgh: I really like this team and I think they have a good shot. After their beat down last year at the hands of the wings I thing they are smarter, faster, older, stronger and I think they have a lot of momentum.
Red Wings: I like the team and the talent but they are in their twilight now I think and I wouldn't bet as heavily on them this year.
Boston: I'm not a big fan of theirs, but I do like Patrice Bergeron. Generally they aren't on my radar screen but they seem to be a force this year and they might be the perfect team to underestimate.
Chicago (who beat out my Flames last night): I like Chicago and they have a lot of potential (very young team)...but they are not going to get by the Canucks. Speaking of which I'm kind of surprised at the Canucks..they have been playing high skill hockey. My concern with them is having too much hinge on the Sedin Sisters and their tendency to disappear from time to time. I don't trust them as team leaders...just players. They need a 'Getzlaf' or an Iginla.
Anaheim (who beat out the Sharks): I'm looking forward to watching them...I'm a huge Ryan Getzlaf fan so It's going to be great to see him pick up his game.
All in all there is a lot of good hockey coming up....so Bring it On!!!;)

Tim, maybe 1/2 right on this. The west has a good chance of ending up like your prediction...and I'm good with that.;)
The east tho'...naah. Again, Boston might be the serious dark horse in all of this because no one has thought much of them for years, including me.
However, I think the Pens have good odds....not great, but good. I agree tho', the West will be great to watch. :D

Let's see ... Pens were what, 18-3-4 or something like that to end the regular season after hiring Bylsma. Flyers gone in 6. Now Bylsma's "interim" tag is gone. Let's see what happens with the Capitals ... Saturday at 1 PM. Let the fun continue ... Crosby v Ovechkin! Go Pens!
