Hi guys. Thanks for all the great info on this site. It's saved me many times.

I've read all the post regarding oil injection. This question is a little different. I purchased a boat with a '93 Pro V 150. I purchased it from a broker who didn't know the history of the boat. For testing, he was pre-mixing the oil for safety. My idea of checking the injection was to run it with pre-mix for a little while and see if the oil level dropped in the tank. I've run 10+ gallons with no change in the level. I went to check the tank on the motor a little further and found it was full of water! The large tank in the bilge had about 2" of water at the bottom and was full to the top with oil. I drained it all out and added oil to the big tank. The pump filled the motor tank as it's supposed to when I turned the key on.

My question is how do I tell if the injection has been disconnected? Should I be able to see a blanking plate on motor? I can only assume that I would have had a major problem if water had mixed with the fuel. Again, the motor runs flawlessly with the pre-mix. The electonics still monitor the oil and sound the alarm if the float bottoms out. I'm wondering if the oil injection is just broken and I got lucky by the water not mixing or if a previous owner disconnected the injection. Any advise will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nathan

well if the oil pump is still bolted on and the oil pump drive shaft is in place its pumping water and or oil. ya need to drain the engine tank by cutting the tie wrap and removing the plastic tube then refill with oil and bleed the water out of the pump.and if its been pumping water into the reed cage area it may run almost ok but if you let it sit like that a few days it will destroy the motor.
so this is something its imperative to find out and find out rapidly

Thanks for the advice. I will do so. All the oil pump parts are in place, but I still can't help but to think that it's not pumping. It runs as good as any motor I've ever seen and I've been running it with the pre-mix for over 3 months. Of course I would not have run it if I knew the oil tanks had water in them. Would it cough and sputter if it was pumping water?

maybe and maybe not.
the oil or whatever is being pumped is injrcted behind the carbs.
but its killed many a good motor.
even though ispecting the water trap is a 10 hour OR once a month maint item.
