Hey guys new to this site. bought a 1973 glastron crestflite v-184 with the 165 hp gm 250 inline 6 stern drive for 200 bucks. boat only has 693 hours according to the gauge. my problem is i have no spark what so ever. here are the things i tried. new points, new condensor, new accel coil, plug wires and cap,new starter solnoid and new battery.set point gap to .19" . tried to start while moving shift lever but engine stalls out while in any gear except nuet. which is normal id think. what else could it be? im stumped !!!! is there away to just get the basic wires to the engine in order to fire? any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

ya i got like 5.5 volts on the + side of coil. also have the 5.5 v on the wire going to the starter solenoid. i believe this would be the resisted wire ?

Try removing the tach feed from the neg side of the coil (tan wire) .

Engin shuts down at high speed.

Engin shuts down at high speed.

Greetings,
I have a Mercruser 140 , 3 Liter,
It starts well , runs well but sometime whe I put it on hight throtle after about 5 min. drive it will shut off as if the coil is burnt. Very quickly goes dead.
then it will take an hour or so of fooling arround and it will start again.
Can anyone tell me what it could be. It dose not look like it is gas problem. It will crank over so It can not be battery, Can it be condenser, point, or Coil.
Is there a shut off switch somwhere?

Thanks a million for your help.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard Siaboat...
You need to start a thread of your own, about Your problems...
This thread is about a Different boater, with a Different problem....

Ya BD,... I see that now...
The points should still see voltage when Open though...

Ayuh,... Motor wiring diagrams are in the manuals, in the Adults Only section of this forum....
There are generic hull diagrams in the Electrical forum...

Re: No spark!!! Please help

I use a 12v electric fuel pump in where the sender goes or remove the anti-syphon at the tank, and install a regular hose barb . fuel pump uses a 6 ft lead in hose and connections to the battery are made OUTSIDE the boat.outlet hose, any length to a suitable container

Re: No spark!!! also new ?'s

hey guys. got the pos started at least......after dropping the fuel pump bolt in the block. dont ask. what is the diffrence between a regular fuel pump and the one thats on my boat? can i use a car one? or maybe an eletric pump? is there sposed to be a return line on it anywhere? also found out the prop spins the whole time. what would cause that? the prop spins one way but not the other, so im guessing its stuck in forward gear? sorry for all the ?'s but im getting antsy to get this bad boy in the water!! thanks for your help guys really appricated!!
