OEM Service Manual on CD?

I have the SELOC book for my Johnson motor but isn't very good when compared to my OEM manual for my old '93 mariner. I was wondering if anyone has tried those CDrom repair manuals. They are about $2.99 on Ebay compared to $37 for the book. Are they any good and easy to use?

If they are the original OEM service manual, then someone's breaking the copyright laws.

I did buy a CD version of the old 1964 OMC master manual for outboards up to 40 hp. It was, indeed, the entire manual, scanned and stored as .pdf files. The guy who was selling them isn't doing that any longer. I suspect he got a cease and desist letter.

Aside from that, they're hard to use, and you can't take them out and get greasy fingerprints on them while you're working on your outboard. The paper manuals are more than worthwhile and, if you ever sell your outboard, having the service manual will get yours sold while the ones without a manual languish.

You can get the manual for your engine right here on iboats. Just click the manuals link at the top of this page.

I bought one of those CDs. It didn't cover my motor (incorrect posting) but they're a photocopy of a manual similar to SELOC in one single PDF file (over 100Mb file). These are not searchable, but do contain the information.

You could print it out for reference, but yes i believe a copyright infringement but I couldn't comment on that part.

Thanks everyone, I'll order one from here just as soon as my new bimini gets here.

Well, I followed the link and found only what I already have, a Seloc. Is this all that is available for my motor? I want the original, like I have on my Mariner, more complete, covering a narrower hp range. '91 Johnson fast strike 150hp. Some of the CDs that sound like junk now cover 150-175hp. I'd like a book like that.

I haven't checked lately, but I believe iBoats only sells Seloc (and similar?) manuals.

For an OEM manual check ebay, but as you know, that can be hit or miss. I've found a couple on ebay, but I've also looked for a while and not found them. And even when I find them, they're not always super cheaper than just going to Kencook.com and ordering. Ken Cook has all of them - owner's and service and is generally the same price as other sources that sell OEM books - I'd just go there, bite the bullet and pay the bucks.

iboats sells the Ken Cook manuals, but dang if I can find the page either. Pick up the phone and call them.

Will do! Thanks again, that Seloc just doesn't have the excellent coverage and troubleshooting that I'm used to.
