Just bought 8 motors of mostly unknown HP from a guy. He sold them to me for $300. I'll list the models and see what you guys think, the HPs and the years of them.

2 x TN-28
TD-20
HD-25
3026
4423

I must have missed one in the pictures I took, the 8th is a 15hp that didn't have a name tag. 6 of them turned over and one of them basically looked like it was better off for scraps.

Sounds like an adventure! You'll certainly have plenty of projects. There might even be a few sleepers in the batch. Keep us posted....

Well you could part them out on Ebay and make 1000% return on your investment, so hard to go wrong. On the other hand, it is not going to make you rich, you need to store them, and most boats only accommodate one motor at a time.

All in all, I doubt many of us would have walked away from that offer.

TN-28 = 5Hp Johnson (1952/1953)
TD-20 = 5Hp Johnson (1946-1949)
HD-25 = 2.5Hp Johnson (1946/1950)
3026 = 3 Hp Evinrude (1958)
4423 = 3.3Hp Evinrude (1947/1951)

Post some pics.

Post the serial numbers too and Ill tell you exact years.

Just an FYI, 8 quickly turns into 200 before you know it! ;) It is addictive.

HD-25;59269
TD-20;668513
TN-28;128987(hard to read, might be incorrect)
TN-28;128743(also hard to read)
4423;76538

The HD-25 is the one that is hardly anything left and is seized, the TD-20 is pretty rough and is also seized.

I do I ever know the feeling. Buyer's remorse. Don't worry you could sell them at swap meets. You said you had a 15hp? I just bought a 1954 model. I have always figured they make good decorations or boat anchors if nothing else.

I never get buyers remorse. Only sellers remorse. I hate selling my motors.

buying incomplete motors, or motors that are just for parts.....is a perfect excuse to buy more motors so you can put a couple of runners together!!!

Buy em cheap, take them apart, wait for parts, buy more, take those apart as well, order more parts, buy more cheap, take them apart, start putting the first one together, realize you lost parts, buy another similar cheap, take it apart, get bored and go to motor #2, forget how it went together, go to motor #3....

Its a viscous cycle!

yeah, it's really more like HighTrim describes -- and I also hate to sell them too. Lots of dilemmas -- sell them for what they really "should" be worth as a good running motor you have restored, and the guy who buys it wants a new motor, and doesn't want to work on it (ever). Sell it cheap, and it gets beat up to heck.

The 3 horse evinrude from '58 would be my favorite of the batch. I feel the need for some pics! :)

It's been a busy work day, haven't had a chance to line all the little piggies in a row. The HD-25 and the TD-20 are the roughest. Then the TN-28s are mostly ok. The 3HP evinrude and 15HP are definitely in the best shape of the bunch. But still with some bumps and scrapes.
I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow!
