Re: Oil vs Gas Heating
I've got an old Magic Chef oil burner. I service it myself (I'm a tech) every two years. My main source of heat is the wood burner. The last time I bought oil was Sep 04 @ $1.89. Hate to know how much it is now. I still have about 70 gallons left, but I sure have burned a heap load of wood. I like using wood cause I can keep the house between 76 and 78.
Oil heat is considered to be hotter than gas, propane, and electric. When I do use the oil burner, I keep my stat set at 70. If it is 15 to 20*F out, my furnace will cycle on for 5 to 10 minuets and off for about an hour. If it is 0* out, It will run for about 15 to 20 and off for 40. I heat about 2400 square feet, so I don't think the efficiency of my old unit is too bad.
Now I'm hearing rumors that the EPA is wanting to make restrictions on people like myself that burn wood. Come on,,,,,enuff is enuff...If these people who complain about the smell of wood/coal lived back in the pre 1950's, then they would know just how much pollution was back then compaired to present times..........SS
