OMC maximum tilt angle

Ok, after the last break-in hours, I am getting ready for some more. 88 0MC cobra 5.7. It was hard to tell the trim position,in rough water, as the previous owner ripped off the trim sender, leaving broken screws and cut wires, which I don't want to deal with until next fall. If anyone knows what trim up angle is the max, I can time how long it takes the drive to reach it, and get by without the sender this summer. Thanks

When the rpm increases and the speed decreases, time to bring it down. With practice you will know by how the boat is running if it's trimmed properly or not.
If the boat is porposing, it's just a little too high.
While having the drive all the way down makes for getting on plane quicker, just start trimming up once you start to plane out as you trim up your rpm and speed should increase.

thanks Don, I know that, but it looks like heavy lake/river waves here, while I break in, and can't tell, as 2 to 3 white caps are not conductive to getting the sweet spot. I was just wondering if anybody knew the angle that the trim up stopped at.

It won't stop until it all the way up.

Thanks Bond-o, that was the answer I needed. Seems some people hold grudges from Dockside Chat. Big Smile Here.

I actually didn't understand what you were asking then. Some later motors actually have a module that prevents you from trimming past a certain point while running and I thought you were thinking you had that.

Sorry i tried to help.

The sender is gone, just trying to figure out the angle before I start putting too much wear and tear on things

Sorry I wasn't more explicit, bruceb; I can trailer it up while running, as no gauge, was needing a benchmark.

I replaced the sender on mine and won't do it again. It really doesn't help me much because I always trim by feel.

me too- I have a perfectly good sender - never bothered putting the gauge I have here in - When I idle out, I just run it down till I hear the electric motor groan- do my hole shot and then just go by feel. Of course on my superior stringer design (haha), the trim sender is in the engine compartment high and dry where it belongs...
