Good morning.

First I have to start by saying I can't believe the amount of information and knowledge I have gained from the members on this forum. I am truly grateful to all of you that contribute.

Now that I have a good understanding of the work I need to do to my boat I have my first questions:happy:

I own a 1984 Conroy (Glastron) X17 3.0 I/O Mercruiser drive. I have owned the boat for over 20 years and love it. I will be replacing the transom, floor and stringers in the next few weeks. Bottom of transom is rotted along with stringers and parts of the floor throughout boat. Here is my question.

1. Once I remove the motor and before I strip off the floor and stringers should I remove the boat from the trailer and support it at each edge of the transom and one point at the bow? The boat is currently on an all roller Yacht Club trailer. I am not removing the cap. I am concerned about removing the stringers and deforming the hull. What do you recommend?

Thanks in advance for you advice?

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,.... Ya gotta maintain the shape of the hull when ya yank out it's backbone, the stringers, 'n bulkheads...

If yer trailer is Well Fit to the hull, it's probably the Best place to do what needs doin'...

Only you can see it, so without pictures, yer kinda on yer own...

Actually, the method that you are describing would be the wrong way to support the boat. By supporting it only at the ends (bow & stern) and removing the structure & cap, the hull could possibly collapse, bringing an abrupt end to your restoration project.

If you have a bunk trailer, then it is a good support mechanism for the hull while the supporting structure (stringers, cap, etc. is removed and replaced. You may have to add a bit more support in some areas, depending on how well the bunks support the hull.

Feel free to post some pictures for additional comments about the support of the hull during the restoration

Welcome to iBoats!

I think you said you have a Roller Trailer. If so, then you should prolly build a bunk style cradle for her or fabricate some bunks for the trailer. If you get a "Hook" in the hull it will not be good. Post some pics so we can see what you're working with.
