Re: Opening day for permit shotgun deer season NJ

The deer slayer had to stay after school for a club he belongs to.

So i suit up and go after the one.

Raining all day but around 50, i get out to the woods and my spot around 1.

Sure enough, nada, nothing.

Just got back, anyone see anything today ?

Tough one today, but thats why it's called hunting, and not shooting, if your out there just for the shot, your out there for the wrong reason.

Good luck my friends.

Rainy and foggy around here today ... too much office work. I thought I would be out there tomorrow, but some other things came up for tomorrow. Bummer. But Friday AND Saturday will be all day affairs! They are the last 2 days of rifle season. If I don't fill my remaining 3 tags then, there is the month plus of muzzleloader and archery season that starts after Christmas. So I have lots of time in the woods yet ... :)

Saw a doe is all today, didn't go out yesterday rained like a monsoon here.

Let the doe walk by, hoping a buck was behind her. Nope.

Tomorrow last day of regular season. Going hunting tomorrow for sure. My back up honey hole, never fail to see deer there. Save it for just such emergency's.

Can't go tonight, got to drive the deer slayer and the, fishing machine on a Boy Scout trip.

Any one see anything, get anything, throw me a bone will ya.

Re: Opening day for permit shotgun deer season NJ

Just got in ... only saw 2. Could have shot, but was waiting for antlers or a better shot. Watched them walk up the other side of the valley. Lot of walking today, no animals to show for it ... almost hit one on the way home though.

Oh, and the funny story of the day ... I was watching a squirrel that went up the tree beside me and started dropping leaves, branches, etc down on me. I moved to another tree and he follows, doing the same thing! I moved back to my original position, my arms were leaning against 2 trees and there was another tree in front of me, my hands were about shoulder height and about 8 inches from the front tree (which I was going to use as a rest when a deer came up the hollow).

Anyway, the squirrel runs down the tree and over to another tree in front of me, then to the tree RIGHT in front of me (about 2 feet - remember, my hands are about 8 inches from this tree). He runs up the far side of the tree to about knee height and comes around the tree, staring at my left knee. After about 30 seconds he goes behind the tree and comes around the other side, looking at my right knee ... I was sure he was going to jump on me! But he didn't, he went behind the tree and climbed up to hand height, and came around to my left hand! Yep, 8 inches from my left hand. He was looking at my face and I was worried he was going to jump on my arm and run up and bite my nose! After 30 - 45 seconds he ran around the tree and came out at my right hand! I am being checked out thoroughly by this squirrel! Then he goes behind the tree and goes to the top of my head, where he acts like he is going to jump on my hat before scurrying down the tree and onto the tree my left arm is leaning on, then down off and back behind me! All total, the squirrel was within 10 feet or less of me for about 15 minutes. It was a crackup to watch ... he knew I didn't belong, but couldn't figure out what I was! Defintely worth a day in the woods to mess with a squirrels head! LOL!

Tomorrow is the last day of rifle season, so I will be out also!

Bass river state park i dropped them off at, down south in NJ.

Come up a road right outside the park and almost slam into a nice 8 pointer crossing the road.

Tomorrow it is, i still have permit season to look forward to but would like to get one buck tag filled.

I like to watch squirrel's also.

Alot of hawks here by me.

Good for him, good for him.

Woods are full of deer, but they are not moving till after dark.

Was not gonna post for a while but had to say to Bob nice pic.

Aspeck keep the tradition alive, and every time she goes in the woods, or baits a hook she will remember you.

And the 20 year old lady who hunts, great to see it, my sister is a dead shot, with a pistol, when we were kids she would shoot running rabbits with a 22lr cowboy pistol,6 inch barrel.

I still love to eat rabbit just have to have 5-6 of them to make any kinda stew.

Happy holiday's people, be good to yourself.

So who got what where ?

Sat is first day can go with a shotgun here.

And the slayer will be at another Boy Scout camp out.

Oh well just got to see if i can get the one saw him again last night, on the side of the road coming home.

I swear i think he knows it's me after him.

He' gotta be 5-7 years old low in the belly and still swollen around the neck.

He didn't move and i stopped the car couldn't count past 8 cause i kept blinking my eyes, if he ain't more than ten ill eat my hat.

Got a little more of muzzleloader and archery season to go, but between geese hunting and league archery shooting, plus the 1st responder calls, and work, not much time to go. Weather has been crappy also ... wouldn't stop me if I didn't have meat in the freezer, but that makes all the difference in the world. The elk steaks last night were DELICIOUS!
