Abomb -- just curious. Can you see some reason why the flywheel was so stuck? I mean, it may have been torqued down too tight and that would do it, but there could also be some rust or corrosion. Would be nice not to have to go through that again. I'm not sure, but maybe grease on the shaft would cause the flywheel to seat too tight. When pros do it, they probably clean off the shaft before reassembly. Maybe degrease? wonder what a pro does.

There was no corrosion, it was nice and clean. It was about 80degrees the day I put it back on. I renember I was sweating. But I think because it was warm and it tightened it till I couldnt moved anymore. It may have seated a little lower.

If you can afford it id suggest you buy a torque wrench as everything operates as it should only near the correct torque setting. I bought a torque wrench for $35. It is also a very nice long ractchet to have around too

From what you said it may have been over torqued and that will do it every time. The Morse taper on that shaft doesn't like that.

I recommend a lil grease on yer shaft. And don't overtorque ...

From what I remember I didnt degrease anything. I forgot why I took it off originally. I think I wanted to check the key. It was fine, I wire wheeled the magnets and popped it back on. I didnt clean the taper. Also I use a 3/8" drive torque wrench for 90 percent of everything I do. I didnt have the 1 5/16" socket, I borrowed one. So I guess I will get a socket and the 1/2" drive torque wrench. Just stinks that I know it will just sit there after this. But if I had I probably wouldnt off had this much trouble.

OMC manuals say to to degrease , let the tapers dry before assembly.----The key locates the flywheel for proper timing.----The flywheel is driven by the locked tapers.

The flywheel key is just to get it in the proper position and that's all it does.
