I've never had a tiller motor so I have no idea where to start them from, I would have suspected they were key start just like a remote controller.

What worries me is you say when you hit the start the fuel primer solenoid energizes.

Anyway find out why there is no power going to the small starter solenoid terminals.

The more I think about it the more I think it should be key start otherwise it would be too easy to forget to turn the key ON.

You need a wiring diagram I have never heard of one button controlling the starter and the primer at the same time. Those should be separate operations and that looks like a horrible conversion is that house wire they used. I have seen tillers and they have the same key set-up as the remote control.

FLYINGSCOTT THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! You were right.

I got to thinking, and started to look into it in my manual and internet. Turns out the button I thought was the starter, is actually the primer choke button! The button on the side that the shifter handle covers when in neutral is the START BUTTON! There is no safety switch on this tiller, because its a manuel safety. You can't depress the button when its in any gear but neutral because the handle covers up the button. DUHHHHHHH I feel so stupid! I am very sorry to all you who have done your best to help me. See at 50 years old, I'm still learning. LOL

At least I'll have a spare OMC solenoid!

Factory tiller never had a key just a start button kill switch was on the end of the tiller. looks like 2 push buttons one for primer one for start.

1993 has quickstart, regulated charging system and revised thermostat design.
