Re: Paranormal

When I was stationed in Ft Benning, Ga as a basic training instructor our training school and barracks were out in an area called Harmony Church. It was the original basic training area back in the early days, and now really only the Ranger School is out there now. A lot of nasty civil war stuff happened in that area and it was a pretty creepy place. We are talking about a lot of grown men who would get weirded out. We would see odd things in the woods (probably wildlife)and hear the occasional odd noise, but it was the overwhelming feeling that it was just not a good area that was prevalent. Out in the trainng areas in Ft Stewart Ga you would come across really old cemetaries out in the middle of nowhere and get vibes off of it. Our barracks in Germany were creepy as well, they were old converted Nazi barracks.

Back in Ft Benning when I first got married, we moved into a new mobile home that had just been set in place. It wasn't a trailer park, just some people with property put up four mobiles to use as rentals. We lived there only a few months and had to move. It just had a bad vibe to it. We never slept well, would always just feel like something was not right. Found out it was an old burial site that had been moved. Maybe Indian, who knows. Even years later I have found that no one would live in our trailer for more than a few months. I am open minded about the paranormal, I won't discount it or be 100% percent convinced it exists, I'll just acknowledge that there could be more out there. For me, it isn't ghosts or any of that, it is just the feeling I get when I am in areas that I later find out bad things happened. As child we lived in a house that we later found out had a man who killed himself in. That was not a pleasant house, and we had to move. Just didn't feel right.

Yes, I did watch The X-Files religiously... :D

Let me get back on the subject.
I remember seeing a "Ghost" when I was younger,.........Looked just like Patrick Swayze. :p

Re: Paranormal

Thanks JasonJ! I always pictured grits growing on a grit plant. I figured somewhere in the midwest there were huge fields of "Grits", and the grit farmers would hook-up their Combine and harvest their grits for the year. They would even have grit pickers that they would pay $1.50 an hour, and if you were lucky, you could find a "U-Pick" grit farm where you could pick your own. Whew!............, am I glad you cleared that up.

Re: Paranormal

Paranormal???? This whole place is full of it....paranormal that is.... :D :D

OK...I'll give ya' a no chit ghost story....it really happened....to me.

My grandma lived down the alley from us when I was growing up and me and my uncle would spend lotsa time together. He always said the house was haunted. As the story went, an old bootlegger lived in the house. Did some bad stuff to some people he sold to and they did him in.

Now grandma always said ol' Joe was still in the house. John, my uncle, always said the same. They said you could hear him walking upstairs at nite. Sometimes going up the steps, sometimes down.

Stayed over with John one nite. We was alone doing what youngin's do best.....watchin' TV and havin' fun. (I was pure then). We would sleep on the living room floor when I stayed.

One nite as we lay on the floor, just us in the house, you could really hear someone upstairs. It walked across the upstairs bedroom. Walked over to the stairs and took two steps down and stopped. John said not to worry. Happens all the time.

Another nite, we was upstairs bedding down. I woke up sometime during the nite with a very cold feeling. This was summer time. Looked out the bedroom door and saw someone standing looking out the window. Fraid' ta' say anything. The, what ever it was, turned and walked down the steps. Didn't come back up either. I stayed awake all nite. Afraid to go back to sleep. And nobody, NOBODY, came back upstairs the rest of the nite. In the morning, I seen my grandma come outta her room. I asked about it. Said she'd been in bed all nite.

Never saw "it" again but still heard lotsa walking upstairs during future stay overs.

This is a true story.

Re: Paranormal

I'll tell ya a true ghost story also. At the entrence to my families property (300 acres with a 50 acre private lake) is a gate. We keep a chain and lock on it. I ALWAYS got an errie feeling whenever I had to open or close the gate, it didn't matter if it was day or night, same feeling. I talked to my brother about this and he said he gets the same feeling. We went together to my mom and asked her if she ever gets scarred or worried whlie at the lake. She said it only happens while at the gate, nowhere else. At this point I was thinking we are all crazy. One day I took a freind of mine to go fishing with me. He got out to shut the gate as we were leaving. He came running back to the truck and locked the doors. He's screaming lets go man, something ain't right here. So much for my crazy family theory.
Now- For the rest of the story. My great grandfather was a drunkard. He liked to "keep 'em in line" whenever he got drunk. He continued this onto my great grandmother after the kids were grown. By whats listed on court documents my grandmother had enough one night so she shot and killed him, I have the actual gun in my cabinet. The courts found her not guilty. Family rumors say my great aunt killed him, they are probably true. Heres the kicker. My great grandmothers house is in the center of the property. My grandfather used to own the land joining his parents and his house was just outside of the main gate. THIS IS WHERE MY GREAT GRANDFATHER WAS KILLED! I never knew this till about 2 years ago. Anybody care to explain it now?

Edit: Had to clean up the spelling

Re: Paranormal

My girlfriend and I went to New Orleans years ago. We went to the Chalmette battleground site of the Battle of New Orleans where Andrew Jackson's army fought off an approach of the British Army. The Mississippi River is on one side of the battlefield and what was thougt to be a nearly impassable swamp was on the other side. The gun emplacments have been recreated with period cannons in place.

As you look out over the battelfield you can almost hear the roar of cannonfire and the volley of rifles. The day we were there there was a steam driven pile driver working in the distance. With your eyes closed it sounded just like far off cannons.

By the way, an interesting side note. Jackson expected to be overrun by the British. He believed that his men would be out flanked by the enemy from the side near the swamp. For this reason he placed all the Black troops at the end of the line near the swamp.

Much to his surprise they held their positions and were not flanked by the British.
