He's shopping in the wrong places, all of the chems you mentioned are readily & easily purchased here. As with most countries - shipping can be a drama.

For my money you can't beat 'inox' or wurths 'rostoff' (available in the U.K.) for penetration. Rostoff is also available with a non flammable freezing agent built in.

BTW, "Australian Gentleman" is an oxymoronOriginally posted by waycheapwhaler:
[QB] I remember reading a post from an Austrailian gentlemen about the availability of off the shelf chemicals we have available here in the U.S. He couldn't believe that you can buy caustics like drain openers and hydroflouric mag wheel cleaners and Bar Keepers Friend (oxaclic acid)The guy really was amazed at this!!/QB]
FWIW,

WD stands for Water Displacement. 40 is for the 40th formula. It is a poor lubricant and even a worse penetrant. It is way over hyped, beyond it's primary design. In a pinch, it is however, better than nothing and it is cheap if you buy it right, like at Costco.

As a lubricant, it will shortly turn to gum and lock up precision parts. It has no more penetrating power than paint thinner does. It does displace water very well.Originally posted by waycheapwhaler:
I did read that WD-40 was developed for the space program or some kind of lunar exploration('61 or '62) and WD is supposed to be the intials of the two chemical techies who developed it -after 40 attempts.
