please help!! newbie

just bought our first boat had it out a couple of times and noticed that the propellor nut is loose. i can move it a quarter inch either way, it has a cotter pin in but i dont think it should be that loose, or mabey thats the way it should be? if anyone could give me the proper procedure to remove the nut re torque it woul help immensly!!tourqe specs too please. thank you all

As long as the prop isn't hitting the gearcase you're OK. Pull the pin (so to speak), tighten the nut and reinstall the pin. While it's loose pull the prop and put a touch of grease on the shaft. Just make sure the thrust washer is there, then the prop, then the spacer, then the nut & pin.
