Yellow/red is starter solenoid. It would normally be connected to the neutral interlock switch, and then to the starter solenoid. Of course, they could connect the neutral interlock switch to the red wire and then to the purple wire. I haven't had the MerControl open for a long time, and do not have the wiring diaghram in from of me..
Not sure why the choke solenoid doesn't work. You might check the wire color. It should be yellow/black.
The small red wire needs to go on the switchbox red post. That post is supposed to be hot all the time. I would check to make sure it is hot all the time. If not run a jumper from the starter solenoid battery post to the switchbox red terminal.
Also, you will still need to put switched ign power on the white post on the switchbox. I would run a dedicated wire from one of the gauge power terminals down the length of the wring harness and into the motor. Tape it to the wiring harness to keep it clean and safe. Connect it to the white terminal on the switchbox.
That should do it....
