Yellow/red is starter solenoid. It would normally be connected to the neutral interlock switch, and then to the starter solenoid. Of course, they could connect the neutral interlock switch to the red wire and then to the purple wire. I haven't had the MerControl open for a long time, and do not have the wiring diaghram in from of me..

Not sure why the choke solenoid doesn't work. You might check the wire color. It should be yellow/black.

The small red wire needs to go on the switchbox red post. That post is supposed to be hot all the time. I would check to make sure it is hot all the time. If not run a jumper from the starter solenoid battery post to the switchbox red terminal.

Also, you will still need to put switched ign power on the white post on the switchbox. I would run a dedicated wire from one of the gauge power terminals down the length of the wring harness and into the motor. Tape it to the wiring harness to keep it clean and safe. Connect it to the white terminal on the switchbox.

That should do it....

I already ran a wire from the tach to the white post, yet the tach doesn't get any voltage with the key in any position. That's why I took apart the quicksilver controls. I'll attach pics in a bit to show you what I'm talking about with the controls. As for the red wire from the harness, I have attached it to the red on switchbox but it shows no voltage so I may as well just use the red terminal on the solenoid to jump a wire from there to red on switchbox. I know everything is hooked up as it should, yet it's weird how nothing works. I'm going to try another battery and also try to reattach the somewhat broken wire inside the controls. Also, the choke wire is yellow/black and is attached to choke solenoid as it should.

No Title

I have attached pics of the inside of the controls to show what I'm talking about. Does everything look alright to you guys?

So it turns out the small red wire that was originally on the post of the starter solenoid on the 900 that Chris said to put on the red post on the switchbox of the 850 powers the controls. I did as Chris said and jumped a wire from the starter solenoid to the red post on the switchbox as that wire didn't show any voltage. Now everything works - choke, gauges, starter, and switched 12V wire to the white terminal. I was about to start it up, then noticed there was zero lube in the gear case, so I filled it up. Then I had to attach throttle/shift cables, and it was ready to go. I attached the fuel line and primed it, but fuel was spilling out the fuel pump and out of the carbs, so I'll have to get around to fixing that another day. Good thing I have a parts motor that has brand new floats and fuel pump diaphragm, so I'll put those in and start it up sometime this week. Thanks for all the help everyone!

UPDATE: Once everything was hooked up properly and new floats and pump diaphragm were installed, it started right up after less than a second of cranking! However the bottom carb leaks a tiny bit, and there appears to be a small air leak in the fuel/water separator. But other than that, the motor runs great! Thanks everybody for all your help :)
