Personally it was the PWC that hit my outboard while trying to jump my wake. :D I was haulin' @ WOT to my favorite walleye hole and cut the throttle pretty quick to come off plain and stop. I didn't reliase there was a PWC coming up from behind and he smacked right into my outboard!!! Only scratched the paint up on my outboard but it punched a hole in his hull.

Are you sticking with the story that you didn't see the Jet Flea?

Watch the movie "The Sasquatch Gang". You'll know what I'm talking about after that. That movie kept me rolling all over the floor. Better than Napoleon Dynamite!

The funnest thing Ive seen (and some of you may have tried this) is a out door umbrella used as a bikini top on a boat. For some reason its just wrong.

Wow.
It must be a very special lady who needs an outdoor umbrella for a bikini top.
I am not sure if I could handle that...

You did mean a "Bimini" top didn't you?? Cause you would need a pretty big bikini top for a boat! :) But I would sure like to see it!

Re: Post the most idiotic thing you have ever seen on a boat.

My example was committed by my own father.

We used to race a 34' cruising sailboat in local yacht club races. He was my pop, and I loved him, but he was a know-it-all and stubborn as could be. I had told him "a million times" not to tail a jib sheet (line) in his favorite way, while the "grinder" was setting the sail after we had come about. That favorite way was to stand with one foot on the deck and one on a cockpit seat, while facing aft with the sheet running between his legs.

On the occassion in question, we had a 170% genoa flying (for the non-sailers, a 170 is a big jib-sail, when on a boat that size), and we were making a tack under a pretty stiff breeze. As the sail came around from port to starboard on the foredeck, it was flapping in a normal fashion before catching the wind. My dad was tailing furiously before the grinder began to take the strain and, somehow, the sheet jerked one of his feet out from under him, causing pop to fall backwards onto the deck along the rail. The still flapping sail then caused the sheet to whip and it took a turn around my dad's neck! Just as that happened, the sail filled.

Why my father's neck was not instantly broken, I will never know. We were extremely fortunate in two respects, one being that the helmsperson (it was a woman) was an extremely experienced sailor, and she had the presence of mind to come up into the wind enough to relieve the pressure on the sheet, but not so much the the sail began to flap again. The other was that another crew member was an ER physician.

We immediately dropped out of the race and motored towards the nearest harbor. The issue at hand at that point was that the doc was worried that my father's throat would swell, forcing an emergency tracheotomy while underway. As it turned out, that didn't happen but "the old man" was one sore individual for awhile. He also looked like he had been hung - he had a sizeable burn mark encircling his neck.

As you might imagine he had quite a time trying to explain all of this to my mother when we got back to their house, without scaring her half to death. He also never tailed a winch that way again!

another time i saw a guy wearing a very heavy backpack try to paddle an inflatable kyak across a choppy channell, he made it about 50 ft before we had to fish him out

Well, every once in a while I talk my GF into losing the bikini top when we are out in a secluded area, but when she does, she wants an umbrella to act as a bimini top so that the girly parts don't get sunburned! :D

2 metal coat hangers

Dad liked to take battery out of the boat to charge it well one day discharged instead

So we are at the launch with a dead battery and no around

Dad says he has jumper cables so I wiggle out my car battery and get it to boat
After rummaging in the trunk of his car he shows up with 2 coat hangers

Coat hangers get very hot when trying to start a boat
