Pre 1986 Mercruiser 228 V8 engine swap question

Greetings~
My 1981 Century 3000 has a strong 228 Mercruiser but the boat needs a new transom & stringers so I'd like to pull the 228 out of the Century & drop it into a 1986 (preferably a 1998+) or newer boat. I've done some reading about the rear oil seal being a 1 piece design beginning in 1986.
My question is: What parts are needed (if any) to swap a pre 1986 GM based Mercruiser V8 into a 1986 or newer boat with the GM based Mercruiser V8?
