Re: Presidential address on Irag

I can agree with that trout. Problem is, they now have the means and will to come over here to get us. They're not going to let us leave them alone, and if the radical sects become the norm, we will be just like Israel to them. I know, this war might be building the support for the radicals, but I bet not. I think the dogs sensing weakness analogy is right on. We've been weak in their eyes or they wouldn't have set their sights on us.

I would say leave Germany to the wolves, but, the way they are managing things over there, we might someday regret losing our military presence. Seems that the face of the entire world has been in almost constant flux, not just the Middle East. The world as it is today represents the survivors of the battles that began with humanity. Makes me weary thinking about it , but that's just our lot. Pessimistic?? Hope I'm wrong.

The mid east is nothing more than a festering boil on the arse of humanity.
Let's lance the boil once and for all. Too bad we weren't more of a savage nation willing to use the full extent of our power.

The romans tried to lance the boil in 70 ad, after the jewish rebellion. Laid waste to much of the region. <br /><br />The Holy Roman Empire tried to lance the boil with the crusades, laid waste to much of the region, destroying the library of Alexandria in the process.<br /><br />The boil is like herpes. It just keeps coming back.

Thanks Kilgore for the response. You've described a couple of ancient efforts that had no intention of what we are doing today, which is not conquering a people. We are not there to do that, and the Iraqis know we are not there to to do that. Your historical comparison is in an extremely small and different area compared to where the problem is today. What you referred to involves small areas of Egypt East of the Tigris River to the Sinai peninsula and cuts into the Gaza. Not only is it several hundred miles from what we are talking about today....the Sinai peninsula is the ONLY successful UN "force" since the inception of that organization. While the topic may be up on call (and I'm straying here), how about the treatment of the Palestinian people by their fellow Arabs in the 1950's-1960's? Anyone talk about that? And the fact that ancient Palestine is actually over 80% in what is now referred to as Jordan?

Palestine never ever existed has a free and independent nation<br /><br />Just generalising about the mid east. and like I said the whole area as been a pain in the arse to the rest of the world throughout history and it shows no sign of stopping.<br /><br />The Palestanians pretty much shot themselves in the foot after the UN Partion of the area. (which also gave us the artificial state of Iraq) The were offered a state, something they NEVER had, yet they elected to go to war with isreal. <br /><br />This thread is really beginning to go all over the place., and that just kind of shows the whole cause and effect of the situation. One thing gets convoluted into another. And Bush put us into the middle of it. <br /><br />And have any of the "my country right or wrong types" seen the irony that we are trying to set up a socialist government in Iraq?

Man, I am impressed that I am not the only one on this side of this issue!<br /><br />Now then, comparisons Viet Nam: Well for starters we were led into that with faulty (and some would say manufactured) intelligence, we have seemed to not have planned this occupation very well ( and that is confirmed by pentagon sources) we are fighting a pretty much unknown and flexible enemy, we have no exit strategy that I have been able to decipher, and we won't know what a victory looks like when we see it, if it ever does come. Oh, and it was supported by virtually the entire congress initially, with the notable exception of a few, like Senator Wayne Morse of Oregon.<br /><br />Oh, and JB clearly the media is causing troubles in this, no doubt. the Washington Post published a poll where 70% of the respondents said that Saddam had a direct role in 9/11. There has been none, zero, nada evidence of any thing of this sort at all, except for Bush claiming that it is the front line on the war on terrorism, and the media reporting it without getting any information out there on what he is talking about.<br /><br />And I will not rehash some of the many good posts by Wvit and Kilgore in this. Other than to say good job, and thanks.<br /><br />Only to say that we are going to need a ton more troops to get this done, and I did get a kick out of someone in a previous thread saying that in Chris Matthew's college tour, he was surprised when so many college students we so much in support of this war. What he did not mention was that Chris always asked the audience how many were prepared to enlist and fight, and without exception, no more than a handful ever would raise their hands.<br />How many are going to volunteer to join the Iraq shooting gallery?<br /><br />It is pretty easy to volunteer to risk someone else's life--it is not as easy to risk one's own.

Just my 2 cents worth. Not being a college man and all that. We'll never know the things that the President could have accomplished if it weren't for Sept.11.Could you imagine someone whispering in your ear that the twin towers have been hit by jetliners. All those people. Not a military installation attacked.Civilians like you and me.I wouldnt want that mans job.But Ill say this.As a veteran,as Im sure a lot of you guys are,I immediately wanted to hit back.We were attacked by Muslim extremists.Everybody knows where they are,the middle east. The President told us it would be a different kind of war, fought on all fronts. There are no borders over there as far as Im concerned. There all in bed together. After Afghanistan,Iraq would of been my next stop too.If I were Hussein I would of made some W.M.D.s and handed them over ,just to save my butt.He knew what was coming and it was long overdue.Nobody wants their sons and daughters to go off and die in war.I tried to reenlist but they said I was to old.I luckily still have a job.But all this economy stuff is not all the Presidents fault. That man has a lot on his plate. He gave me a tax break, albeit a small one.But I would gladly give it back each week if that money helps rid the world of fanatics who want to kill me.We as a nation are peacelovers, I believe that .We would rather help you than kill you. Those people over there just dont understand that.I can see both sides of the debate here, and I wish the world were at peace. But after what they did In Manhattan, they are getting their's now .You just can't turn the other cheek on something like that.If you cant' see what's happening here then you are foolish or a coward.I support the troops and my President. This isnt about oil, this is about two very tall buildings full of people like you and me.

Re: Presidential address on Irag

Plywoody pecked this amoung other jewels of literary genius-----"Only to say that we are going to need a ton more troops to get this done, and I did get a kick out of someone in a previous thread saying that in Chris Matthew's college tour, he was surprised when so many college students we so much in support of this war. What he did not mention was that Chris always asked the audience how many were prepared to enlist and fight, and without exception, no more than a handful ever would raise their hands.<br />How many are going to volunteer to join the Iraq shooting gallery?"<br />You really need to clean out you ears, and unscrew your brain,Plywoody. Apparently, you didn't LISTEN to what Bush said. You may have sat there cursing under your breath in seathing hatered of him, but you did not listen to what he said.<br />He said "Whatever it takes". Therefore, how much money will it cost us, Plywoody? Do you believe it will end at the figure given, after he stood there and told you "whatever it takes, wherever terrorism tries to regroup---" Your buds in the liberal media have been somewhat lax in thier duties to report US casulties over the past 2 weeks...Why? BECAUSE THERE WEREN'T ANY!!!! Not to make more out of this fact than is actually there, but they failed to report this.At minimum, they made it a non-issue..."nothing to pick on here, give us dirty laundry". They also seek-out the biggest group of indigenious people, carrying the largest signs, in protest to our efforts, and position themselves to make 100 or so look like 1000. And you dang well know this.Just as colleges allways inlist the pear-pressure meathods of recruitment into the socialist movement at every opertunity. To take anything that take place on a campus in this country is to distort the issue with images of peace protests, earth day SUV burnings and such, and many Americans are not only sick and tired of seeing it, they are beginning to fight it! And you dang well know this.<br />Then, we must put up with you and you small band of Baath party sympathisers here. Why don't you just go away? You don't like us. We are predominently pro-American here, and all you do is anger us with your BS oozing from every opertunity.<br />It serves no other purpose, than to anger Americans, Plyuwoody. It can't, regardless of what you let on it does (freedm of speach and all that rot, I can just hear you now).<br />America is AT WAR with terrorism. This is global!<br />I would not blink twice if Colin Powel got on the tube tonite and said "We just went into Ireland to make a prescission-attack on IRA headquarters". Yes, there are still avtive terrorist cells there, and therefore, targets in a war on terrorism.<br />Commander in Chief commands the generals.Let him.<br /><br />Generals handle attack plans..Let them.<br /><br />News media reports the news (the news that sells whatever we are currently buying. They are still predominantly STUCK in Saigon at this time, and we can't do much about that..Except to watch news we can trust, and let these pushers of perversion whither on the vine.<br />It's the soldiers job to die for his country if called-upon to do so, and at minimum, to follow the gereral's orders...Period.<br />It's the American citizen's job to suport our troops 100%, and to encourage them any way we can.<br />No thanks to you and your operatives.<br /><br />But as long as busload upon bussload of terroists come into Iraq, let's keep the fronts down to a manageable minimum, while inflicting the largest number of mutant casulties. Keep your busses commin, Plywoody.. Best to wipe them from the face of the Earth, and take care of colateral damage there than in Florida or New York.<br />"Whatever it takes", in spite of you .<br />You might as well refocus your efforts on the "Draft Hilarah" campaign. But do it elsewhere.<br />Because Hilarah is a joke here.Healthy debate is one thing. Constant trolls are another.

Right on ALG.....It is a war without borders. And it is us against them. I for one want to win ....at almost any cost. 9/11 was the start of this and I pray what ever it takes that we end this. These terorists are still around so what we need to do is keep on keeping on.

See what I mean, Plywoody? We are predominently pro-American here. I know you mean well, but our boys need us now. And they need bullets, beans, and blankies.<br />They don't need "your negative waves, man".

Excellent post AGL.. ;) <br /><br />You too 12er... But dont ask these guys to leave this forum.. the ACLU will demand we have a lib quota to maintain. :D :D So it could be worse. <br /><br />On the other hand arguing with these folks is good for our resolve after being lamb-basted daily with the BS media. And it also gives us all a closer picture of how America really feels on these issues.<br /><br />GOD'd Bless America!

Ryan, dude, don't read it if it bothers you. I mean we can't spend all our time talking about power washers, suction cup hickies and B&Es right? :D To some of us older folks this is the most important thing to happen in our lifetimes. This IS WWIII. You've made your point
