I got a new head unit last year, but didn't hook it up right. Basically I didn't have an unswitched hot wire so I just ran the red and the yellow to a switched hot. No problem except that the unit had to go through it's startup every time I turned the boat off and on.
Well this year I ran an unswitched hot wire and hooded the yellow wire up to it so I can use the stereo more often and not have to reprogram it every time I turned the boat off. It worked fine for a couple outings, but now I get terrible static and loud humming every time I turn anything electrical on in the boat. Had it running at very low volume while anchored yesterday. Then we started getting ready to pull up anchor and I turned the blower on. The noise was so loud it almost scared us out of the boat.
I also can not turn the power on and off on the stereo which started about the same time as the interference problem. Wonder if the problem is in the stereo or in the boat? After writing this it sure sounds like something is wrong with the stereo and not the boat. It's a Kenwood and has hardly ever been used.
