Prop Hub Issues

after reading several posts I seem to believe I have a bad prop hub. When I reach cruising speed my motor seems to slip out of gear. No bang like some indicate a bad dog. If I throttle to neutral then back on the throttle it goes again for a bit but will slip again shortly. I have worked on just about every engine known to man (and Woman) but not an outboard. I read one post a person had this issue and someone told him it was a prop hub he then answered he was going to get a new prop anyway. Will replacing the prop fix a prop hub issue? Why is it repairing/replacing a prop hub requires a shop can it not be fixed in the driveway? If it can does anyone know a good step by step instruction thread to follow. How much can I expect to pay (roughly) to have it repaired for those that have done it in the past. I have the Clymer manual somewhere but I can't find it. My engine is a 1986 85hp Force. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Do a google search for prop repair and see if you have one close by. The prices range all over the place so you really need to look at individual repiar shops and what they charge. Most put their prices on the web page. If you find one you can drive to, you will save alot in shipping.

Thanks John I'll look I figured sever on his forum may have already had this done and wanted to know what a reasonable price was. I know most shops will post the lowest price then add the "additional parts" on later when you have option but to pay. Also I found after posting that the prophub requires a bearing press (no problem) but any comments on the rest of my post? does a new prop fix th hub issue? Also I found a web site that is Prop_aid a hank parker sponsored "fix" but I don't see force or chrysler on there does anyone know of a make that is compatable with Force?

yes a new prop will have a new hub installed in it.

and yes a press is needed to put a new hub in but....if im not mistaken it is done by acid dipping the hub and then pressed perfectly even and with a certain amount of pressure. having one re-hubbed around $75. last i looked around me. i have found unless the prop is damn near perfect its almost cheaper and easier to buy a new one.
