Re: Prop question

So after searching my prop is a plus model and is 14 3/4" diameter. Is that still too big?

For best overall performance, yes that's too large a diameter prop for your V6 rig. If you were running a big V8 on the ocean, then think Mirage.

That said, if you already had the correct pitch Mirage installed, you might not even be here looking...

we're getting ahead of ourselves. Is 43mph by GPS? You need a tach.

Here's a good tach that will store max rpm and installs with one thin wire wrapped a few times around a plug wire for $27.77 Prime Amazon.

" Hardline Products HR-8061-2 Hour/Tachometer with adjustable input, Resettable MAX RPM and Log Book "

Amazon.com: Hardline Products HR-8061-2 Hour/Tachometer with adjustable input, Resettable MAX RPM and Log Book: Automotive

Does the aforementioned fit your budget?

Re: Prop question

43 is by GPS. I actually took the Stingray classic off my lower unit and got 46mph with myself in the boat. That hydrofoil was holding me back in every aspect. If it "only" runs 46 that is ok but I need more low end. I will have to check out that tach. When idling the tack seems ok, about 750 or so. But as soon as I make a wake it shows like 2000. I know that is not accurate.

That may be. Accuracy is extremely important, but that alone is not necessarily indicative of a bad reading.

Re: Prop question

So a little update. Got a meter to check the accuracy of my tach. As suspected it was off by 1000 rpm. So I went with an 18 pitch 4 blade Michigan Apollo. Now I can over rev so may need to go with 19 pitch. But my speed is now 42 with 5 people in boat at 4800 rpm. Much better.

Re: Prop question

Glad to see you've gotten it working better. FWIW - I have never been impressed with the Apollo, besides price.

If you're buying another, An HR4 Titan seldom disappoints at a great price $~300.

Good Luck

Re: Prop question

I am glad to hear you say that. The Apollo is far better than what I had with the 21p but still feel it should be better considering the big change I made. Have a friend with a 19p 3 blade. Gonna give that a whirl too.
