If I take the exhaust manifold off and the heat exchanger, and the outdrive off, what should I winterize? I will bring all parts removed into the house and reinstall in the spring, with new gasket and impellor.

More information would be helpful to properly answer your question. . .

Are you asking if you take those things off would you not need to winterize?

I think it would be advisable to winterize first, and then take the parts off the engine, etc.

You should probably add some details on your motor and drive? You say "manifold" (singular) so I assume this is an inline engine? Also, you say heat exchanger, so this engine has closed cooling? Help us with the detective work ;) :)

Just taking the manifold and heat exchanger off may not drain all the water from the block. Also remember "winterizing" should include your winter service of oil change in engine and drive and bellows and alignment inspection before reinstalling.

Re: pulling ehaust manifold to replace gasket, do need to winterize?

Sorry for the lame post. I have a 470 with an alpha drive. The exhaust gasket has been leaking, I've been adding antifreeze each time I take it out. I have to change the gasket. So I will be taking off the exhaust manifold and heat exchanger when I change the gasket. I plan on pulling the outdrive to check/replace the impellor and check/replace the gimbal bearing. So yes, my question is if I do all this before winter, do I need to run antifreeze through the system? I think spdracr39 answered my question.... all the water may not drain from the block...

Ayuh,.... With a 470, there's no reason to drain the block, so long as the antifreeze is up to snuff...

However,... the raw water side of the H/E, 'n any other raw water Does need to be drained...
