NO!! At least not the regular carbon string resistor wire. You need 7mm "wire" wire, with stranded metallic wire core. Cars haven't used it in over 50 years. But tractors, lawn mowers, some farm trucks, etc do use it.

Any one know how to do this. Or an easy way to do the spark plug wire building. Looks like its not going to be fun.

You need to remove the mag plate - 4 bolts hold it on - two long bolts through the coils and two shorter bolts. Once removed, you'll need to loosen/remove the wire clamps on the underside of the mag plate to free the wires. The wires will pull out of the coils. It's easiest to just remove the coils and have them out of the way when you feed the new wires through. A little lubricant on the wires helps. I usually feed the new wires through with lots of slack which makes it easier to push/screw them into the pins on the coils. That way you can rotate or turn the coils onto the wires. I usually add a dab of dielectric grease to the ends of the wires. Once the wires are properly secured in the coils, pull the slack back through the plate until the coils are back in their proper place. Secure the wire clamps and remount the mag plate. On the spark plug end, If reusing the old boots and spring pins, use lots of lubricant to get the off the old wires and onto the new wires. I usually strip the ends of the wires so there is about 1/4" of bare wire showing and fold the strands over the outer sheath. Then push the spring pins into the center of the wires and make sure you have continuity with the core.I try to position the pins so the spring end just touches the end of the wire with the folded over core wire. The hard part can be fitting the boots back over the wire, especially if they are old and stiff. Lubricant really helps. Some will say to put the boots on the wires before mounting the spring pins. I've done it both ways, but prefer putting the boots on last. Hopefully this makes sense.

Once you bare about 1/4" of the core strands, just fold them back over the outer sheath. They will then make contact with the spring portion of the spring pins in addition to the pin itself.

Okay the wire went together good. Everything tested out good. Put the new wires on the plate. Next question for spark plugs. How big should the gap be.

I tested to make sure I was getting a good connection from boot plug to the secondary plug in

Now my motor won't fire. I have been pulling for two days straight and it won't turn over. I have the points at .20 have new plugs and wires the carb was rebuilt four months ago. It acts like the motor isn't getting any gas but it is. The carb acts like its not working. I'm fed up with this motor

Points should be set at 0.020". Have you tested for spark with a spark tester? If you have spark and gas, the motor should fire.

That's what I mean. .020 sorry. I haven't tested for spark because I can see it spark. Plus spark plugs are new. Its like I have no gas. Starting fluid didn't even start it. Could my coils be to far from the fly wheel wall. Before they where to close and I could pull it over. Now it pulls good but not fire at all. You can see its getting gas. Comes out of exhaust port.

Try squirting some gas into each cylinder and see what happens. "Prime the pump" so to speak. If it doesn't fire, then you have an ignition problem.

We did that as well still nothing. Could my coils be to far in. To close to crake shaft. The top spark wasnt as big as the lower spark

Is the FRONT coil going to the TOP cylinder? Just making sure you got the right coil gong to the right cylinder.

What are your compression readings?

The condenser are good. Coils are good. Points could be cleaned. Really they should be. The motor fired up fine before this. It just didn't run at full speed. Turned out I have a bad spark plug+wire. Fix that. Now it will not start. I'm thinking one or two coils are not making contact with fly wheel. The carb is clean two. Its getting gas as well.
