Re: Rant about Ford

Ive had a lot of good fords and 2 bad ones, both of which they finaly got fixed, after several trips back to dealer. One was an 75 ford granada, the next was a 96 powerstroke f250. Thoes ford problems pailed beside the trouble I had with a 88 chevy k2500 , when I finaly gave up It had been back to the dealer 34 times, from the day I bought it till the day I traded it you could take your hands off the wheel and it was in the ditch within 100 , It absolutly wore you out to drive it. I hope the buick I have now.that I just spent $544.00 on, replacing gms faulty intake manifold gaskets. Is not a repeat performer of the 88 chev

Re: Rant about Ford

My daughter has a 2002 Ford focus w/40,000 miles and it started making a strange squeaking sound this past fall. I couldn't find the problem then but she just came home for the Holidays and the noise has gotten worse. Today I jacked it up and the right front coil spring is turning itself inside out. (the bottom coil is up inside the second coil). I contacted the Ford garage to see if it a recall item and they tell me she can get the springs replaced for free until 2012. I have never seen a spring do this before.

Ez - no problem, I try to get a picture of it this weekend for you.

There is no grease fitting - fan-freakin'-tastic.

So, driving home from work, I turn the wheel a little bit, and "wheeeeeenk". The sound is still there. It's a LOT quieter than before, but it's still there. It still sounds like it's coming from the connection between the column and the wheel which is exactly what I told the dealership.

I'm thinking about spraying some Sea Foam in there to see if that fixes it but I get nervous spraying stuff around the airbag and all that.

Maybe I'll just forget about it for a few days to cool down before I unleash holy rage at the dealership...

Re: Rant about Ford

I have heard from many different people of horrible treatment from ford. At 36001 it's your baby. I worked for one shop and and we tried for two different people and were told that the warranty was up and there was nothing they would do. No, tie rod ends shouldn't wear out in 38K. There is absolutely no justification for brakes wiping out in less than 40K miles.

All brakes create harmonic vibrations or squeaks. However technologies exist to dampen these vibrations to abate the noise to frequencies inaudible to the human ear. No there may be dogs in pain for blocks around, but you should not hear ANYTHING. This is why I only use premium brkake pads in my shop. No noise, stronger stopping power, longer brake life and less brake dust. Twice the price yes, but in that panic stop when you can barely stop in time, it is well worth it.

Re: Rant about Ford

The Service department at the Ford dealership that I bought mine from in 96 treats the customer like a king.
They do a LOT of things not covered for you.
They write everything down on the work order and let you all that was done for free. :)

They are a BIG outfit but run the business like they are a two man shop in a country town.

For one day drop off and pickup
They have a free shuttle to take you to work.
Then pick you back up after work and bring you back to pick up your vehicle.

If that doesnt work for you. I had a outside sales route. They just gave me a loaner car.

Service department is open Mon-Fri from 8am till Midnight.
Saturday during normal hours and closed Sunday.

But if you need to drop off the vehicle on Sunday. No problem. Any of the sales staff will fill out the work order and park your car inside.

They will get first shot when I buy my next vehicle. New or used.

jsfinn
Sorry to hear about your ordeal.
Not all are like that.

Link

Leave it to a Chevy guy to rub salt-

I just had my upper ball joints & idler arm replaced on a 1985 Caprice wagon w/ 162000+ miles.

They were factory original.

The original bottom joints are still good.

And people still ask me why I won't buy a new car...

Now there's a novel business idea - being open when the customer can get there. Usually it's 8-5, M-F.

Ya, no kidding... not to hijack the thread but what's the deal with barber shops being open tuesday-saturday 9-4pm? I have to take time off work just to get a haircut, it baffles me.

They also gave her a diagram to show where the resistor for the heater is located. The resistor went bad and the Ford garage where she goes to school told her $120 to replace it. The part is $12 retail and is held on with one screw. I haven't looked at it yet but the internet said its a 10 minute job. I guess you really have to check out different dealers.

Re: Rant about Ford

For the record, my 2001 ESCAPE went over 50,000 on original front brakes.

Brakes and Tie rod ends lifetimes are very subjective to the type of driving one does and where he does it. I now have 82,000 miles and a recent inspection of the tie rods showed mine to be in good shape. (Originals)

If you live in Detroit or Chicago suburbs, I would say that the chassis shops around there make a handsome profit. The roads are like the bombed out one's in Beruit!

I also own a Focus (wifes car).

The supplier that made the springs used a defective coating causing the springs to prematurely corrode is what I was told.

Re: Rant about Ford

For the most part, I have had good luck with my ford products. 1st Taurus= 205,000 miles, Sable wagon= 197,000 miles, 2nd Taurus= 110,000 miles and only traded that to get the Expedition I have now= 174,000 miles. My wife had and explorer- a escape- and now another explorer. For the most part they have all been good vehicles. The ford dealer has great service and usually I can get a good deal. My only complaint is with ford itself. My Expedition needed a new transmission at 66,000. With the history I have with Ford I was hoping they would work with me as this should not have happened at this milage. With what you pay for a new car these days, 36,000 warranty on drive train is not enough. Warranty time will be a factor when considering my next purchase.(this spring)

Re: Rant about Ford

I made the appointment this morning. My Escape is going back into the shop on Tuesday. The steering is clicking when the wheel gets back to center and makes a rubbing sound at 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock.

My family has owned Ford vehicles forever and almost all of them have been good.

My dad now has a 2002 Taurus which has had a couple of problems with the power window which took a long time and a lot of money for the same dealership to fix and now I'm having this problem with my Escape.

Other than that, we've really had no problems. I wonder if Ford is getting sloppy recently?

Before I bought my Escape, I had a Volkswagen Golf. It had it's share of problems too. Under warranty, the master cylinder, fog light, and transmission were replaced. I got stuck with the bill for a bad computer module which prevented the car from starting.

My wife has a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant with almost 80,000 miles on it and the only problem it ever had was a bad temperature gauge and bad radio that got replaced under warranty. Other than that, it's been a fantastic little car with absolutely no trouble.

I also have a 1995 Chevy pickup. I don't drive it much and I've only owned it 6 months or so, but with 230,000 miles on it, I'm impressed.

Overall, I think Ford makes a good product. I think the dealership I'm working with has gone downhill and next time, if I'm buying a Ford, It'll be somewhere else. For right now though, I feel like I need to get the dealership that started to fix the problem, to finish fixing the problem.

Re: Rant about Ford

I thought I'd post a conclusion...

I was on my way to the dealership on Thursday to have them repair the noise again and realized that half way there, it wasn't making the noise anymore. Of course.

So, I went to work and forgot about it.

This morning, it doesn't seem like that big of a deal anymore.

I got T-Boned going across an intersection. Nobody was hurt.

These are some pics I took quickly with my phone:
