I tryed to post a vid of the noise but can't figure it out so I'll just ask.

It's the first two vids in my album.

I replaced my impeller so I dropped the lower unit( 4.3 Mer, Alpha 1 Gen 1) and the tube ( WATER TUBE ?) was loose.

I can pull it completly out.

Could this be causing the rattling noise? The noise wasn't their before I pulled the unit.

Should I glue it to the upper unit?

Thanks guys.

Re: Rattling

Kind of hard to tell, but to me it sounds like the clutch dog is trying to engage either forward or reverse gear. You could have been off one spline when mating the intermediate shift shaft to the lower when putting the drive back together.

Shift it into gear, forward and reverse, while on the muffs and see if the rattling goes away.

You shouldn't need to glue the tube in, are you talking the long brass tube that carries water FROM the pump up in the Exhaust housing? Maybe your grommets are bad.

Your drive is up too far for starters, but I don;t beleive that is the noise, my guess is your shift foot is off by one spline.

Re: Rattling

for just replacing the water pump it sure isn't drawing much water (if any at all)

i think you need to take the drive off and inspect your water pump install job, then you can be sure you have the shifter lined up properly before re-installing the drive

Yes.
The tube is plastic in my unit.

how long is the plastic tube you refer to??

you are aware that there is a white plastic guide tube that is about 3" long and the actual water tube is about 8" long??

Re: Rattling

Thanks guys.

I pulled the lower unit again and matched it up.

Then I adjusted the cables.

No more rattling.

Thanks again!!!
