Re: Reason for board changes *please read*

Well Admin5, Christmas is coming. ;) I know I will be looking here first for gifts for my husband and friends.

I think there are many potential customers in the group that don't necessarily offer technical advice. Besides, would you really want a blonde helping you fix your boat? Those of us who first came here for advice or a small purchase decided it was a friendly place to visit and stayed.

Oh, BTW let me be the 2nd (Oddjob beat me to it) to offer a congratulations to one of iboats veterans...Gonefishn for his 1,000th post. :) He has been an important part of this board with his insightful posts. :)

Re: Reason for board changes *please read*

Hmmm.

Whatever Admin5 says or does is not going to please all of the members all of the time. He is surely not alone in that. I guess all 36,000 of us can join him in that.

Calling social, political, chat and humor posts "mindless banter" simply means that they aren't aimed at asking for, or offering specific help. That doesn't make them valueless. NTDWB is now reserved for that sort of interchange.

Please remember that this Bulletin Board, and even the NTDWB Forum, was founded to give people a place to ask for and get advice and information.

The new Forum is for people to ask for and get advice and information on non-boating subjects without their posts being buried in the heavy traffic of the "new style" NTDWB Forum.

If it was iboats intent to tell social posters to "get lost" this Forum would not exist. We want you to stay. If we are a bit testy about it, it is because it has more than doubled our workload and tripled the amount of complaining and insults we have to deal with. Perhaps more socially oriented Moderators for these two fora will make it easier on you and us.

Ranks and titles: These were originally intended to acknowledge a member's time and effort helping other boaters with boating problems. That has moved toward being simply post counting and the intent has become obscured. Future assignments will be based on the original intent.

"Be nice": Our hosts are probably the most moral, ethical gentlemen I have known in many years. We moderators intend that the character of the Bulletin Board fits the character of iboats and its founders. If you wouldn't say it to or in front of your mother, minister or young daughter, don't say it here.

Other changes and additions are in planning and study. I expect that you will welcome them when and if they come along.

thanks for the changes, iboats. looks good to me and makes a lot of sense.

i'd love to see posts in ntdwb not count towards someone's total. we'd have a lot less admirals around these parts. us lieutenants hate admirals -i have to give a tour to one today :(

Re: Reason for board changes *please read*

I can honestly say that I have not contributed much, in the way of boating advice, to this site. I have contributed my input and perspective on various subjects though, many of these were and are important to me, and I believe have been important to various others, just maybe not the Moderators of this site.

If the NTDWB section is such a hassle, then do away with it. It is a nothing to do with boats section, and from what I have witnessed, thats exactly the type of threads that are posted there.

"Mindless Banter"? ............Hardly. Keep in mind Mods that many of the people that frequent this site, will be looking to iboats when it is time to purchase boating related items. We are all potential customers. ;)

And shame on you JB for trying to justify the "Mindless Banter" comment. You do not have to blindly follow the other Mods...............or do you?

Oh, I almost forgot......... :D

Now thats the answer that I ex......(edited), forget it.

If i'm a problem, then delete Carphunter from this site. I'm sure it would not be to hard to do.

I like this site and the people here, even if my comments are not wanted.

There is nothing that I said in my last post that I wouldn't say to my Grandmother, Daughter, or whomever. Dang, I put the smiley at the end JB!!! Everybody seems like their ready to snap.

JB, i'm just being silly, like I always am. I am not trying to stir the pot. 99% of the time that I post, I am just making goofy comments, that is why I generally post in the NTDWB section.

Sorry if I offended anyone.

What's the big deal here?

For those that want to "chat" about things, you've got your section.

For those that do not want to chat and look and respond in the tech. areas, you have that.

Seems like everyone should be satisfied.

BTW, I'll gladly give up my rank.

seriously, if your life revolves that much around the happenings of iboats' website, you've got issues.

I think these small changes are long overdue and don't see that they are intended to harm anyone. Good job, Mods.

Same story, just a new chapter published for all the new fellers. The good old days on Iboats, very little of the cut&pasted email forwards, but still plenty of other stuff to keep the blood pressure up.

Alot of posts by people with a false sense of renewed self-importance... this is the internet for Pete's sake! I remember rushing home from work to see what the new spin was, checking the forum at any break in my evening. Now I pop into the forum every week or so... glad to see some things never change, or am I?

I guess my debate would concern why some put so much 'thought' into 'mindless banter' Check through someone's/anyone's post to see how they've helped the forum. I've rarely offered any help on boats here - SO WHAT! In the "terms", it never said I had to. It also never said anything about being a pompous know-it-all, but there's a plethera of that here at times.

Re: Reason for board changes *please read*

"Let me back in"? They didn't force me to leave, I just got bored. If all those moderating gentlemen look back, and compare me then to what's been going on recently, my ordeal was pretty tame.

The present situation is like a festering sore; the more you pick at it, the worse it gets.

I refuse to buy in to all the hype anymore. I was so worked up when I used to frequent here that I almost needed medicated. When it comes to friends and foes on this board, I've made quite a few. I just have memory problems on the "foes" issues... can only remember a couple that I still don't like. It seems like Matttt25 had words for me in the past, but they've evidently escaped my recollection. So, this goes for anyone, if you hate me from past indiscretions, just ignore what I say, you won't get a fight out of me anymore.

At any rate, from what I've seen, the new "trouble-makers" are neither psychologically nor emotionally equipped for a "posting-war" with anyone obtaining even a minuscule amount of literary merit. ;)
