Reinstalled VRO-starts right up-still worried about water pump-help !!

I just undid what I did- reinstalled the VRO "fuel pump", wanted to start and idle but would die, turned the red knob a bit on the choke solenoid and it started to idle fine, now fires up instantly.
BUT water is definitely coming out from the vent holes? behind the rubber motor mounts as if w/p output pressure is routing UP the driveshaft, filling the guide tube. Is this normal ? Since it was one of the reasons I redid the impeller, I specifically tried to pay attention to a missing or improperly installed seal. Other than a rubber grommet that seemed to float on top of the impeller housing that I secured with Gascasinch, there was nothing and a specific footnote I saw that said 3 cal motors have no seal at that junction, any thoughts ? Should I worry or just go fishing ? If I have to drop the lower unit and redo something, it's no big deal. Will do.
Also w/p stream is very strong, water is also coming from behind both motor mounts. Before it was only the port side. Is this due to new/stronger water flow with the new impeller.
Thanks again

Just my opinion others may chime in but..........Sounds like the powerhead gasket is bad. You will probably need to replace it. Water is leaking there and traveling down the mid section. Not up the driveshaft.

Never thought about that.
Just received recommendation from a old salty boat mechanic, said to pull thermostat cover, start and check for flow, if good, take point and shoot pyrometer on the water and run it. Looking for a temp of around 110 at the housing he said.
Great, powerhead gasket. How hard is that to change? I have a SELOC manual. I'll look it up.....consequences for running it as is? If I'm gonna do a "gasket", is that time to rering it also. Will I be that far into it? Compression is a bit on the low side, which I new when I bought it.

Did you get all the d/s seals on top of the water pump hsg installed correctly ?? If not, water can crawl up the d/s and pee out the top. Been there.

That's what I'm getting at, there are no drive shaft seals on top of the water pump housing. Only thing there is a floating piece on top, is called a grommet in the scematic and there is no way it is intended to seal water from coming out the top of the impeller housing, more of a seal for the top of the housing to driveshaft guide tube...

Make sure that the tubing going up from the pump to the engine is in the right place where it is entering the engine.
