Mercruiser has a similar system that SEI copied, and since that is all that SEI does is reverse engineer and copy things, it should work fine.

Just wondering why you would need one of these.

so that if your loosing gear lube you will know, and if you had an air bubble trapped when you re filled the drive it will add more oil and make sure its topped up.

Thanks for the info, I had never heard of those. I have a 75 drive that I keep in the water in the summer, would one of these be recommended for me? Cons?

You should probably post a new thread of your own, this one belongs to Cresco and his question.
Post what engine and drive you have too, never heard of a 75drive.

Sorry, but I don't see that it's really that necessary for anything. Check the drive oil once every few trips out with a screwdriver on the vent plug. How often does anyone lose drive oil?!

if someone keeps their boat in the slip all year (like me) we can't just pull the vent plug and check the level.

Helps identify if you have a leak without having to get the tool out (or have gear oil run down your arm!).Pulling the drain plug in and out after avery few trips runs the risk of wearing out / stripping that thread, too.
I guess Mercruiser thought it was a good enough idea to make one for the later drives, so I figured it would be a good idea for the Mc1 as well?

Mercruiser has had a drive lube reservoir as an option since the early 80's.
