I have a 1998 Yamaha 25HP 2-stroke with manual start and tiller steering. I have fitted the Yamaha remote adaptor kit and have connected up control cables for steering, throttle and gear, but the kill switch is still on the engine! Can I just connect another switch in parallel with the one on the engine, or must I remove the switch from the engine? Is the standard switch contact open or closed when the engine is running?

Yes you can add another in line. The switch is open while running. It grounds the ignition to kill the motor.
