I have a 1988 OMC 3.0L with a lovely crack along the block. When looking for a replacement, can I use a Mercruiser 3.0 instead? What is the difference in the engine that would not allow this transplant?

The engine was running great until I failed to properly winterize and the block cracked. If the long block is the same, then I have no troubles moving the intake/exhaust/accessories as needed from the broken motor. Thanks for the info!
