I will be replacing my Mercruiser 228 with a rebuilt one from Rapido Marine. I've been reading over the service manual on removal of the old and installation of the new but I'm wondering if its really as simple as it states. If there is anyone close to me that would be willing to lend a hand in a few weeks, I would greatly appreciate it. Food and Beer would be provided :) as well as some compensation if needed.

I've never done this before and cant really afford to take it to a marina to be done but I want it done right.

Re: Replacing Engine

York, Maine? Maybe. York, PA. Sorry I'm too far away.

What happened to the old engine? Have you disassembled anything yet?
If not, don't do anything til you take pics, compare the new motor and check that it is a drop in.
I'd get one of those oil change tubes so you can drain the oil instead of sucking out the old.
If you don't already have it you should get a copy of the Mercruiser service manual. I bet someone on the forum will forward it to you if you don't.
I have heard good things about Raoul at Rapido Marine.
Good luck either way. I'd kind of like to help on a Sunday if you are York, Maine and can take the football games being on at the same time.

I didnt realize my location wasnt showing on my replies. Fixed. Also, I was hoping to get this done on a fri/sat so it wouldnt conflict with kickoff.

Re: Replacing Engine

I have been taking pictures of everything but I havent started taking things off yet. Also I contacted Rapido this afternoon to get the ball rolling on the new engine. I'm doing everything possible to make sure this is just going to be a drop in and bolt on motor.
